Download a free manual at brother-usa.com, more than likely you pressed the reinforcement stitch button before the presser foot was raised.

I continue to get error 1 on my singer futura xl 420 I am in desperate need of a solution

Turn the power off, wait 20 seconds then turn it back on. According to the manual, if the error doesn't disappear, see a service representative. Not much help, I realize.

The display says Error # 1

Unable to help without knowing the make/model of the machine. Sometimes the error codes are listed in the troubleshooting section of the user's manual.

When my Janome Memory Craft 4800 is turned on, I get this on the display "Error #1"

I notice others on the internet have suggested its a threading error. Try cutting the thread at the reeel and pulling towards to needle to clean all the guides.

I keep receiving the E-1 error that the thread is

Don't use Singer needles, go to where ever you buy your fabric and get a pack of Shmetz Universal needles, it will cost you $2.50 or something like that.

Also don't use cotton thread for a while, the sensors are very sensative when the machine is "breaking in", so use poly blend threads for the first few projects.
