Sometimes it happens that you start the computer and get black screen having this message, "NTLDR is missing press Ctrl +ALT +DEL to restart". This mostly happens when the virus infects your computer, because most of the viruses attach themselves to the NTLDR files. This can also happen due to power failures, problem in master boot sector, corrupt bios settings, or some other problem in the boot.ini file. These files play a very important role in rebooting the system and if there comes any problem or they get corrupted by some virus or for some other reason, then they do not allow the hard drive to boot. However, its not that much difficult to fix this error, as all you need is to get your installation cd and then need to follow some simple steps. This will definitely help you in fixing your boot loader to the working state.
*First, you need to get your installation cd and then place it in your hard drive and restart your system.
*After restarting the system, you will get message "Press any key to enter setup". So, follow this message and press any key, this will take you to the setup. However, there could be some different scenario as well depending on your bios setting. This is because of the fact that if you have not given priority to your hard drive then it would not boot in this way. For this, you need to change your boot device priority and its better that you set this priority to your CD Drive.
*Once you enter the setup and it loads the entire program, then you need to press the R key, which is for repairing the windows installation. This action will take you to the dos mode where further processing will be done. In the dos mode, system will ask you about installation place. Most of the people install their operating system in the C drive, which comes at number 1 option, so you need to press option 1. However, if you have so many partitions or you have installed the operating system then you need to choose the option according to your drive name. Here you need to enter your password as well, but if you have not set any password then you can simply press enter.
*Then there will be a c:\WINDOWS> command in a dos mode where you need to write, "Copy d:\i386\ntldr c:\windows. However, if you have different place of your installed operating system then you will write the address of that drive. This is the whole process and now you can eject the cd and can press exit to restart the system. Now this process will copy the correct NTLDR file from installation disk to your hard drive by making your system in the working condition.

No display it is power is on

Hook up to external monitor .. Does the pre boot screen pop up (black and white writing at start ) ? If display runs on external monitor then your screen needs replacing usually or if you see a vague image on laptop screen then inverter or backlight is gone .. if no display on external and no pre boot screen probably the graphics chip on laptop has malfunctioned.

Hello, I have a problem with hp pavilion dv

Try lowering your display settings when it is hooked up to the external monitor. Then try the laptop screen again.
Right click an open area of the desktop, select properties, click the display tab. In the lower left of the box there is a settings slider, try lowering the settings and see if it gets better.

Screen on laptop keeps going black

please explain further. keeps going black from where? after turning on the laptop? of after windows logo? if after windows logo screen turns black if a no boot issue where laptop cannot load system files. if screen is black after turning on no manufacturer logo and windows logo or anything then it might be the LCD or video card / motherboard. to isolate try connecting your laptop to an external monitor and check if you will be getting the same problem. if no display from the external monitor then its a video card issue, if video card is integrated needs to replace motherboard.

Acer Aspire One Screen Wont Work!!

try hooking it up to an external monitor using a VGA cable. If you see something on the external monitor, then it's the screen that's bad, if you still see nothing, then it's more than likely the video card.

Black Screen

try hooking up an external video source. Check to see if the computer is actually booting up. if the computer boots up, then the LCD invertor or Backlight of the screen is bad, need to be replaced.

If the computer does not boot up after hooking up an external video source, then most likely your motherboard is bad!

need to be replaced.

Repair installation

Sorry to cover the basics but you cant be too careful. have you set your bios to boot from cd? Also when the cd tries to load you should have to tap any key to go into it. If all these thing are covered you have two more likely faults. 1. Faulty Ram. 2.Faulty drive
