Make sure the volume is turned up on the speakers high enough to hear. Also check that your system volume is not muted and turned up high enough to hear.
If you are using a music player application, make sure the application's sound is turned up. If anything is set to mute or turned down too low, you may not hear sound.

Another thing that can cause sound to fail is bad sound drivers. Sound drivers are software components that tell your operating system how to use your sound card. If you have recently installed new sound drivers, the new drivers are a likely cause of the failure.

To fix the problem, install different drivers or perform a driver update. In general, it is best to download sound drivers produced by the manufacturer of your sound card or motherboard, because they will release official drivers that are unlikely to cause problems. Check the manufacturer's website for current drivers for your sound card or motherboard. Download the latest driver for your card from the manufacturer's website and then run the driver installation file that you save to update the driver. Normally, you will have to restart your computer before the driver will function properly.

Problems with your sound card or speaker hardware can also cause your sound to fail.
Open the side panel of your computer and locate your sound card to make sure it is plugged into the appropriate slot and seated properly. If the card is not plugged in fully, remove it and reinstall it.

After reinstalling/installing an Operating System you can lose the Audio Drivers or sometimes they just corrupt.. Try reinstalling the Audio Drivers from the disk provide with your P.C./Laptop. If you no longer have the disk just visit the website of the makers of your P.C./Laptop or Motherboard and download the Audio Drivers from there, after that install them.
Thumbs up please if this works for you, thanks..

Connect my BA7800 to my laptop that only has a headphone jack

As you stated in your question there are 3 3.5mm headphone jacks connected to the speakers. Green is for headphones, red is for microphone, and black is probably just a line in connector.

plug the green connector from the speakers into your headphone port on your laptop and it should work.

because the speakers are self powered and have a few adjustment knobs on them, you will have to tinker with the volume coming from the laptop and from the speakers, so you don't have distorted, scratchy sound from the speakers when playing music at loud levels.

my suggestions is turn the laptop volume down to a quater of the volume and then turn the speakers up, let the speakers do the hard work and not the laptop..

I have had my Advent Modena M202 laptop for 3 weeks now. At first the built in speakers were working, then the left speaker cut out and stopped working after 1 week, the right hand speaker has now cut out...

This could be one of two things;
  1. There is a wiring, connection issue from the laptop to the speakers.
  2. There is a driver issue. Try clicking uninstall on the speakers. Under device manager, right click the speakers and click uninstall, and then click scan for changes. This will attempt to install the newer drivers.

Everything on my radio works but theres no sound.i did go into the settings and turn on the power IC

Is that no sound for all speakers and the subs sometimes if just one speaker wire is crossed wrong all the speakers will stop functioning . did you just install it your self or replace any speakers or did it just stop working. i would pull it out and look at the wires mainly the speaker wires and turn the radio on while you can still inspect the connections, wiggle them a little. may help,

I am using acer travelmate 5520-5678 and the external speaker only works from the left side. Both works when I connect my headset..

sounds like the spaker on the left hand side is unhooked, blown or the pre-amp in the laptop that drives the speakers is bad, headphones are uneffected as it is a seperate system.

sounds like a simple example of overheating on the laptop. Do you have it up off the surface, so that the air can get into the bottom or back fan?
