Question about Porter Cable 18 Gauge 2 " Brad Nailer Kit 3/4" - 2" Brad Nails Inclu

1 Answer

I have a Porter cable 18 gauge nail gun. I think that a seal is blown because when you try to make it set a nail it just exhausts air. I took the top off and checked the seals but i could not see any problem. I see that Porter Cable has a rebuilt kit. How difficult is to repair the gun? I'm very handy and try to repair most of my tools when there is a problem.

Check the parts breakdown for your model and see if seal #894737 is listed. This seal is cause of problem that you describe. It is included in the rebuild kit or available separately. If this seal is not listed, then problem is fine scratches on oring contact surfaces in head. Use magnify glass to examine surface and remove fine scratches with 400 grit paper. Apply silicone paste lube to all surfaces that contact orings and seals. (Silicone lube is available at Lowes in plumbing department, used for faucet orings). Parts for gun are available at Dewalt service center or at www.toolpartsdirect.com. Good luck with your repair.

We purchased a Porter Cable Staple Gun, Model # DA250B. Unfortunetly, it does not explain how to load the staples into the gun! Could you please help us. Thank you, ...

Porter-Cable/Delta has an excellent support site, where you can find pdf manuals, part numbers, etc.
http://servicenet.deltaportercable.com/

Porter-Cable DA250B is an angled finish nailer- it drives 15 gauge brad nails, and won't work with staples. There are some smaller pneumatic tools that can drive both brads or staples, they are typically the smaller 18 gauge fasteners.

If you have the correct 15 gauge angled nails, the DA250B manual has nice pictures showing how to insert them.

I inherited a Bosch T31 bradder and stapler. Couldn't get any help at Home Depot chosinga nails. Bought Porter Cable 16 Ga. 1" finish nails (PFN16100-1). Released arm and slid the nail carrier...

BOSTITCH T31-1 stapler & T31-2 STAPLER and NAILER. Both use 18 gauge (very fine gauge wire). Try using 18 gauge Bostitch staples (used in BT model bostitch staplers). Good Luck

What is the angle of the 15 gauge nails for this gun and what nails are compatable

You did not mention the brand or model of your gun, however, you can determine the angle needed by placing a straight edge in line with the path of the driver and measure the angle from this edge to rails.. If the straight edge to the rails measure 90 degrees or makes a right angle, you need "0 degree" nails, if it measures 80 degrees, you need "15 degree" etc. Most generic nials 15 gauge nails will work. No need to by branded nails unless your gun requires an unusual angle. Good luck.

Will work fine for one or two nails and then nails jam in the gun or it shoots two or three at once.

This is iffy... but PC nailers are nit picky. If you used someone elses nails, it can (and will) jam and mess up.
So, if Porter Cable nails are being used, clean and lube the nail shoot (with a few drops of air tool oil).

If that does not work, Invest 19 dollars in a new, 18 guage nailer at Harbor Freight. I have 2 of those and they have been trouble free for 3 years.

Brad nailer not firing nail...can hear brief air noise upon pulling the trigger

Porter cable makes a number of brad nailers (18 gauge) that very quickly suffer from the problem that you are having. You did not mention the model number of your gun but if it is one of these, (bn125a, bn200a, ns100a) kit # 60061 will fix the problem. It costs between 25 and 30 dollars. Google that part number or order from www.dewalt.com. Dewalt owns the porter cable brand. Before you order the kit, check that the driver blade is not bent and stuck. The driver should travel freely down the cylinder. When you install parts, use Danco silicone grease to lube (availabel at Lowes in the plumbing department) If your model # is different from those mentioned above, please email me and I will recommend a repair.

Porter Cable BN125A won't set nails below surface

Not sure about the seal, but I do know the pressure has to stay up for this nailer to be effective. Try oiling the gun to free up the mechanics and don't use old nails.
