Question about Dell 3100cn Laser Printer
My printer prints fine, but sometime (mostly on red ) you will see a smudge. Sometimes they are small, but very noticeable, and it's in random areas of the printed paper. Does anyone have suggestions.
Printing color 8.5 x 11 full page:
2.5 in from top of page I notice of pattern of nicks on the page 1/8 to 1/2 inch across the page mostly on the left 6 inches of the page
Smudges usually will indicate a drum problem (your toner cartridge) on a laser printer. If you pull it out you should see a flap that will move back and forth. Moving that flap will show you a cylinder which is the drum. If it looks worn, then it will have to be replaced. It may be hard to tell if the drum is worn down.
During the lifetime of the printer, the drum needs to be periodically replaced as its surface wears out and print quality deteriorates which is what is happening with your printer.
So you will need to try replacing the cartridge and see if that solves your problem, if it doesn't then you will have a spare and I can further direct you to what to look for.
please let me know how this goes and good luck
