The make and model of my pc is HP Pavilion dv6704nr Entertainment Notebook PC and I used it for barely 30 days and it developed a problem with the optical device. Its unfortunate the manufacturers themselves haven't been helpful at all as they've provided a lot of suggestions to the problem. I wish I could return to US but is unfortunate am in Ghana. Can anyone be of help since my Notebook PC is not worth its value any more. A few friends who use the same model are complaining the same problem as the computer cannot detect the DVD drive at all despite the fact that it talks about the error as 'Code 10'.

HP dv6599el - trying to create recovery CD's the system lost contact with the unit. no more cd's - hp accept only one creation, no security on writing with any program. Shame!

my hp pavillion dv6700's optical drive stopped working after a month and a half. only sometimes will it eject, and it won't read cd's ever.

I have the Same problem HP Pavillion dv 9000, My Cd drive stoped working and the Cd drive icon is gone from the Computer Window. I have tried system Restore but when ever i shut down or restart it happens again.

Did you try doing a driver rollback?

Try updating the drivers again. If all fails, Try a system restore by pressing f10.

I'll bet that you have iTunes installed on your computer. Start by deleting iTunes and Safari from your computer. I had exactly the same issue with my HP Pavillion dx6650us, and the moment the Apple software was off of my computer, the problem was solved. Hope this works for all of you.

I have the same problem with my HP Pavilion tx1219us. Says Code 10.
What can I do to fix this problem and make my computer recognize the drive?

I have the same problem with that optical drive on a dv6500t Pavilion. It says that the driver is the latest version.
