I have the same problem. I think there may be a piece of glass caught. How do I get to the food grinder to check and clean it out?

My dishwasher is making a grinding sound

It is so common that the machine can make terrible noise in many ways and is a common fault. In all occasions it is important that your observation is most important and so is vital to the identification /rectification and solution. If you have noticed that machine is vibrating when it is running then the motor / pump/sprayer arm must be checked and inspected. Since these fittings are located on the underside of the machine it is important that you look for the noise with a good inspection lamp. Manually turn the motor and drum and listen for the noise, if so the motor bearings, the shaft and fittings must be checked. Tightening of the mounting is also very important. Finally in most cases a drop of OIL or smear of grease on the moving parts can solve most issues.

Finally clean the machine ,check for tips on this link:

My Samsung dishwasher model # DMR77LHS makes this terrible grinding noise when it is initially turned on & then 2-3 more times through the cleaning process.

Mine make a grinding noise also when the wash cycle starts. I had a repair guy over fixing my fridge and he said it was the washer motor. My machine has only been in use for 1-2 yrs. Other owners say that the tabs on the top rack break off and get lodged in the machine. hope this helps a little.

Load grinding noise, like the engine is working too hard.

Most likely the motor/pump assembly is worn out and grinding. If the machine is less than five years old it is under warranty. If over five years old, the repair part alone is about $150 not including labor.

My 10 yr old kichenaid dishwasher is making a grinding noise do y

Well a grinding noise could come from any moving part. It could be the wash arm, motor, or pump. Remove the wash arm and clean all that you can reach with a nylon brush. If that doesn't do it, call the repairman.

Dishwasher makes a loud grinding noise when running.

Start by pulling out the lower rack. Then pull the nut off the top of the lower spray arm. then remove all of the visible hex head screws. lift up on this section. this should expose another level of hex head screws, then they should be removed and this section should be lifted up. once you reach the chopper blade, remove the obstruction, and put back together.

On certain cycles, the motor makes a very loud humming noise.

quite possible that noise is from foriegn debris( ie.chicken bone of pistachio shell, toothpicks) getting into macerator/chopper assy, wouldnt panic just yet, give it a fewloads to try to clear itself, a few screws leading down through the top of motor assy (under lower spray arm should give you access to assy if needed
