Hi this will depend on a few factors, first off why did it blow up? this sounds like you have the timing set wrong what seems to have happend is you have had a build up of fuel in one of the pots, and this in turn with the spark plug has ignighted the fuel blowing the governer, the best thing for you to do, is make sure 100% that the timing is correct and not 1 tooth out, just replace the broken parts on your engine, then try again, as i enphasize make sure timing is 100%...hope this helps

Zx2 ran fine for a bit after timing belt change, now no start.

suspect the timing belt tension was to low and has jumped a few teeth initially(run rough) and then jumped further or stripped teeth(will not start at all).
check timing belt position setup....
if its 1-2 teeth out of timing you could put a new belt on with engine correctly setup.
.if its completely wrong the your engine will have internal damage(valves bent and pistons dented)

John Deere 265 starting problem

To start ensure that is not a carb problem, and that the engine is not chocking because of incorrect carburetor settings. The carb should also taken apart and cleaned.

Try also running the engine without fuel tank cap, if engine runs fine replace the tank cap.

if carburetor, fuel filter, tank and fuel lines are ok it may be a faulty fuel pump failing. To test the fuel pump, insert a pressure gauge tool like this in the lines out from fuel pump.

I had to replace my governor gear, it shattered in 9 pieces for I don't know why, but i replaced it. The problem I am having is I put it together lined up the dots on the cam and crank gears for the...

It is not internal to the engine unless that run-away condition is why you initially had to replace the governor gear.
Did you get all the springs/rods/throttle cable back where they go ? That's the first thing I would check. I wouldn't tear into the engine for the dots. It's not timing. They go together as you said. It wouldn't have cranked if they were off.
Make the adjustment back to where you started before the run away problem and see if it changes.

I have a 24HP V-Twin Briggs that i blew up. I found the parts i needed and rebuilt the beast. It starts and runs but i cant get it to throttle down. I split the case again and inspected the governor....

A big vavume leak and or the throttle blade doesn't close or it gone ( missing). the carb should close all the way ( you can't look thiugh it) with the linkage off you should be able to run it by hand with good results. if you can find out the correct way to put the springs on and just move things around or gat a look at one thats working right and you may see whats put together wrong on yours.

Check the belt/s and make sure they are clear. If they are okay, check the governor spring. If the spring is gone, it will start but as soon as a load is put on it will stall. Good luck...Lee

The most likely senario is that the water pump went bad which caused the overheating in the first place. Then after the engine shut down, the water pump seized up. When the engine was restarted, the timing belt started to smoke because the water pump, which runs off the timing belt, was not turning. Since the engine overheated to the point of shutting down, blown head gaskets are a possibility. Put a new timing belt and water pump on it and start it up. If it runs OK, you're good to go.
