You can download a manual from the Singer site.
http://www.singerco.com/accessories/manuals.html
Just type in 1418 and click on search.
On the next page choose free download!
The oiling instructions are on page 29 of the 31 page PDF file.
Hope this helps!

Stop motion wheel frozen. undid screw but not able to unscrew or loosen wheel. Machine runs beautiful except for this one issue.. how can I get this motion wheel off or loosened so that I can wind bo

As a simple fix you can buy a freestanding bobbin winding device online, this will wind a bobbin for most machines so is a simple fix and can be used at any time.

You may also want to remove the top cover of your machine and oil internally, it may help with the fly wheel issue. There is an oiling diagram for a White 1510 on this page http://www.sewusa.com/Sewing_Machine_Repair/White_Sewing_Machine_Maintenance/White_1505_1510.htm
If your machine top cover looks similar and you can remove it then certainly use this image as a guide to oil in the arrowed places, then manually turn the flywheel towards you gently to spread the oil. Use a good quality clear machine oil, or Triflow if you can, it has silicone in and doesn't dry out and leave sticky residue like a mineral oil can over time.

From reading the manual for the White 1418 on the Singer website, it looks like you hold the outer part of the flywheel and turn the inner knob towards you to disengage the clutch for bobbin winding. Is that what you have described above?

If you don't have the manual you can download it from the Singer Instruction manuals page, link is http://www.singerco.com/accessories/instruction-manuals, then type W1418 into the search field and click "search" then wait for the screen to load, you'll get a "Free download" icon on the right after a few seconds. Click this and wait again for the pdf file to download, it will take a bit of time depending on your internet speed.

I dont know where to put the oil

There are small holes what you find along the moving parts indicating that it is a oil lubricating point. You might just have to use a tiny drop to get the oil to move along the holes to the spindle bearing/bush blocks or within the mechanism. Do not attempt to use too much oil but only if the machine is too dry as seem with a good lighting.

Happy New Year.

How to oil old featherweight

Hi! I love the old Singer sewing machines!! Do you have the user's manual for your machine? The manual has great diagrams showing where to put oil and grease. If you don't, check out http://www.221parts.com/

In the meantime, look for little holes, often with raised edges and put a drop of oil in each. Put a drop of oil wherever metal moves against metal. You'll need to oil inside the head, on the right-hand side where the motor is located (DON'T oil the motor--use grease instead), and also underneath.

Good luck and let me know how it goes.

Changing stitches on a White 1418 sewing machine...

I have a White 1418. Here's how you do it:

1. Attach the buttonhole presser foot (should have come with your machine) and place the fabric underneath.
2. Set the stitch length knob to 0, the zigzag width knob to 5, and set the needle position to center. Sew 3-5 stitches.
3.Change the stitch length to 0.5, the zigzag width to 2, and the needle position to left. Sew to the entire length of your buttonhole.
4.Set stitch length knob to 0, zigzag width knob to 5, and needle position to center and sew about 3-5 stitches
5. Set the stitch length knob to 0.5, zigzag width to 2, and set needle position to the right. Pressing the R button (reverse button), sew up to the top stitches.
6. Remove the fabric and open the button hole with a button hole cutter.

Sounds complicated, but it's really easy. I love this machine, you just have to know how to use it!
