Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

My daughter has a sony 50 inch tv .The model # is KDFE50A10. It is 2 or less years old. About a month ago you could turn the tv on and it would cut off and on again by itself and it got quicker and quicker to cut off. Finally it would not turn on at all. When you cut it on the green light would blink a little while and then you can here a switch cut off somewhere where the electric cord comes in the tv and then the red light starts blinking.I tried another bulb, the same kind from our tv and put it in hers and it did not fix the problem. Can someone please help me with a solution? Thanks Jeff

I went to the web site and put in the model # KDFE50A10 and serial # 8176084 and it said I do not need the software update.I unpluged the tv and pluged it back in and it still did not work.

    Thanks

I have not cleaned the air filter, but I will try to get to it and clean it as soon as I can. If it is the ballast or thermal fuse ,do you know the price of each and where the best place to get them?

    Thanks

I have not tried to get any parts for this tv at this time.I took the back cover off of it and checked a fuse and it was good. I plugged it back in and it stayed on for about 3 minutes and then cut off and the green light blinked around 48 times and then it came on again by itself. Can someone tell me if I need to take it somewhere to get it worked on or what the 48 blinks mean and I can fix it myself?

    Thanks again!

Its possible that the ballast could be faulty or the thermal fuse may be faulty preventing the lamp from lighting. have you tried cleaning the air filter which is located on the side of the set?

I would go to sonysupport.com and search for an authorized service center in your area. That will probably be your best bet, As sony has had alot of issues with that model and alot of the boards have already been discontinued

Tele wont switch on only 23 months old can I claim back part of purchase money

Not sure about the tradestander office statement, but saying that a TV should last at least five years is like saying that my dishwasher should last the same amount of time (which mine has lasted longer). You, like most of us are up against the hope that products produced in today' world will stand up to longevity as those products produced 20 years ago; it just does not apply anymore. That is why there are warranty's, depending on what model is purchased. I've always bought a Sony TV, and NEVER had a problem (my last Sony TV lasted for almost 20 years, and that is because someone in my house, and no one will say who, turned the volume too high and ruined one of the speakers, less I would still have it). Just my opinion. If fixing the TV is more than 50% of the cost, then it probably is not worth fixing.

Hi We bought a Sony Bravia 40" 2 1/2 years ago. Model # KDL40EX400. After about 14 months we started to experience something very bizarre. The TV would turn itself off. No lights on the screen. Af

At some point you have to cut your losses, this is the reason I suggest getting an extended warranty with coverage (including the maker) of 3 years, 80 of the 140 sets in our shop are less than 3 years old, if this set had that they would have to fix or replace the set----One reason I choose to answer your question (I do this here for free) is this set ought to have a error buffer, when set fails it will count the event and that also indicates where the issue is.

Most of the Sony sets for the last decade with set off and using the Sony remote: Display, 5, vol down, and POWER will if set comes on bring up a display with a number of shortened items listed----they should all if the set has this be a zero. Any with a number indicates a issue and the number indicates the number of times this event has happened.

I have a sony 50 in rear projection. 9 years old

Sounds like the CRT tubes are going out which is fairly common on Sony. Inside the back of the TV there are 6 knobs - 2 for each color...one is for focus - dont touch - the other for brightness...turn down the brightness just a hair untill the lines go away.

I have a samsung 50 inch plama no audio....

Have you checked the connections to your speakers and if they are connected correctly from the TV and to the speakers. Also as it is only two months old the product should still be covered by its warranty so contact your supplier if you have no luck.

Sony KDS-50A2000 screen is in green tint

My Sony KDS 50 A2000 is 17 months old. Its the 50 Inch SXRD projection model. About two weeks ago the screen developed a green tint with cannot be tuned out, then a few days later the message began to appear on the screen that the bulb was nearing the end of its life and must be replaced.
Fortunately I have the Circuit City extended warranty.
I called and within just a few days a serviceman came out and replaced the projection bulb.
The Result: No change in the picture, the green tint remains on all channels, so I'm awating the next service call. Under the service warranty they have the option to repair or replace this set. If indeed this is the light engine (optical block) which I suspect and its going to cost $1,000 or more I may be looking at a new set.
When it works this is a great TV, but I have had three Sonys now including two other standard CRT models and now this one joins them in the junk heap, the other two also bit the dust after just about two years. Is it time to give up on Sony?
I know they have a class action suit on a similar model for this same problem. Caveat emptor

Moved Sony Bravia TV, now will not turn on at all

The warranty on this set should be for 1 year. Return it for warranty service. Unless the set was dropped, moving it should not have effected anything. DO NOT open the set sas that would void the warranty.
