Question about Pool & Spa

1 Answer

My husband removed our AO Smith pool motor from the pot/collection basket and now he is having trouble getting the clamp assembly-volute back on. This is the clamp on the outside of the seal plate and the volute and it has a knob where a screw is thread through. Any suggestions?

Use a synthetic lubricant like magic lube and lay a bead all the way around in the groove the o-ring sits in. Press the o-ring into place causing excess lube to ooze out. Wipe your finger around the whole mess to coat the whole o-ring and then be sure to lube the o-ring on the diffuser.

Once everything is coated the large o-ring should stay in place and the pump half should insert fully into the volute so you can install the band.

Assuming everything is electrically correct, the motor probably has a short in the winding somewhere. The motor should have a one year warrantee on it. Any pool store ought to be able to trade it out for you.

Hi, I have a QC 1072 A.O. Smith pool pump motor. How to get the impeller off? Which direction does the impeller spin off? Where to but impeller and seal? Thank you very much Greg

The impeller is just screwed on the shaft. COUNTERCLOCKWISE to remove. Some have a screw in the center attaching it to shaft. This is removed by by turning CLOCKWISE.(reverse threads) Remove back cover and secure shaft with a wrench. There are flats on the shaft to hold it. You might need a large pipe wrench to loosen impeller. Wrap with rag so you don't damage impeller.

Replaced ao smith mtr with ge marathon, now have leak?from bottom

Thank you for posting your question here on Fixya.com.

Check the volute o-ring for damage. It sometimes moves as you re-tighten the band around the pump halves and gets pinched. If it was, replace it. You may also need to replace the pump seal and insert if the pump is old enough to have had one. Whenever you change a motor you should also replace the seal.

Need to replace back half of a.o smith pool motoer

Do you mean A.O. Smith motor? This is the back half of
the Pool Pump. A.O. Smith motors are the most common motor drive for household pumps, so I believe
that you can easily find the replacement. Just specify
the horsepower (HP) rating, voltage: 220/110, single
phase or three phase. Just send your e-mail comment
for more info. God bless you.
