Question about Hampton Bay 24750 Huntington III Ceiling Fan

1 Answer

I have a ceiling fan that seems to be stuck on the lowest setting. I have already replaced the capacitor and it did not fix the issue. When I spin the fan by hand there is no resistance. I'm trying to figure out what else might be wrong with it

Ceiling fan won't reverse

most ceiling fans are sealed units and cannot be cleaned
the switch reverses the polarity of the field windings to make it spin backwards
seeing as it is humming that indicates that the start run capacitor may be failing or it is not wired correctly
even though you would like to diy( not legal with electricity)
getting in an accredited electrician to diagnose the problem and getting a quote could save you money

yes. FYI just because a fan is spinning faster doesn't make it a better fan. Look for around 5500 CFM's on your next purchase. Info would be on box.

Ceiling fan stuck on high

I found out that the capacitor and switch is shortened. I un-shortened, and it got to low, mediium, and off.

Ceiling fan will not spin, but I hear it

It most likely has a faulty capacitor not allowing it to start. Remove the light kit or the cap where the light kit mounts, the speed and reversing switch will be in there along with a capacitor. You should be able to buy a replacement capacitor at most home improvement stores.
