How to convert scanning documents to MS-words

You are going to want to find any OCR software that works for your printer. OCR is 'Optical Character Recognition'. It will take the scan and convert it into a text document, which is either already compatible for MS Word, or easily converted itself.

How do I convert a scanned document to text using the Nashuatec Aficio DSC224

This has very little to do with the scanner and is a software issue. You need either an OCR progam (takes an image, attempts to determine what each word is, and then the output can be saved as text) or a PDF to Word processor converter.

The best OCR programs are paid products. There is one free version (SimpleOCR at simpleOCR.com ) that has two limits: it does not handle text in colums (like newsprint) well and doesn't handle handwritten text.

OpenOffice has an add-on that pulls a PDF into Draw (a Paint program) or Impress (PowerPoint-like section). Microsoft Office has similar add-ons (if that conversion isn't in the program already). There are also free-standing PDF editing tools (a few free on-line options and several desktop versions for a fee - with the Adobe Acrobat being the original of them).

I hope this helps.

How can i use ocr on lexmard 5650

If it didn't come with any OCR software you can find some free OCR software by Googling free OCR. After you have the software installed, it's usually a case of browsing to the scanned image via the software and telling the application to convert the image into a Word document. Some applications have the ability convert to PDF as well. If you prefer a PDF document but your OCR application doesn't support that option, then download some free "print to PDF" software. Typically with this type of software you will not be able to edit a PDF like you will a Word document. Hope I was able to FixYa, please remember to rate my solution. Thanks.

Canon printer MP470: I have never been able to use the OCR. Can you tell me how to click, click, click to do OCR? I go to MP Navigator/ One Click/ OCR/ then it says specify program where scanned...

Dear Tom,

No problem, you're a mere 17 steps away from creating a high-quality document using Canon's cutting-edge OCR software!

1. Load doc onto platen.

2. Press "SCAN" button.

3. Make sure "DOCUMENT" bar is yellow and press "OK" button.

4. Make sure "SCAN TO PC" button is yellow and press "OK" button.

5. Press "BLACK" button (w/ white diamond on it) located under the word "START" (might take a couple of tries as this button tends to stick a little.)

6. On computer screen, find image of doc that was just scanned and select it by clicking on little check box under image so a check appears. MAKE SURE NO OTHER DOCS ARE SELECTED AND/OR DE-SELECT THEM NOW.

7. On computer screen, find "double chevron" bar in lower left-hand corner and click on it.

8. Click on "EDIT/CONVERT."

9. Click on "CONVERT TO TEXT FILE."

10. This will bring up a new window. Click on the "blue arrow" with "1-2-3" next to it, located in upper left-hand corner of computer screen.

11. This will bring up a new window with three buttons to choose from. Click on the middle button, which says "PROCESS ALL UNRECOGNIZED PAGES"

12. This should start the OCR process and bring up a new window.

13. At this point, I just hit "CANCEL" and highlight & copy the OCR text by myself. (This will allow you to get around the "SPECIFY PROGRAM" program you referred to in your post.)

14. Then I open a new doc in Word (or whatever word processing program you use) and paste it directly into the new doc.

15. Then I save it into whatever folder I need to save it in.

16. Make sure to read through the doc and correct any OCR typos and/or "artifacts."

17. Save one more time to make sure you don't lose your work and you're done!

OPTIONAL 18th STEP: Open a beer and do a big bong hit -- you've earned it, soldier!
