Question about Carrier XHB123D X/Y Series Heat/Cool Air Conditioner

Open Question

I have an 58GP100-3 Series 311, and the motor in the furnace blower is fried. I'm trying to find a replacement for either the motor or the entire furnace blower. Does anyone know where I can find one or the part no. for the motor/furnace blower itself? Appreciate any help. Thanks.

SOURCE: model number for Carrier furnace with issue for blower 5 minute off delay

I believe that this model number is for an air conditioner evaporator coil. This unit is probably directly attached to your furnace. The Model number for the furnace will be located in the compartment where the flames can be seen. It will be on a sticker or plate that contains lots of other information too like BTU/h, Volts etc...

The number you gave me gives me this info:
Cased air conditioning evaporator coil.
3 Tons
Horizontal application

SOURCE: blower motor stopped

you have a bad "starting capacitor" .. the capacitor is used to get the motor to start in the correct direction .. when its bad the motor doesnt know which way to turn so it just sits there buzzing until it gets hot .. that trips a thermal breaker in the motor and shuts it off ... when it cools it tries again .. dont let it do that for a long time since you could damage the moter eventually ... the starting cap is a round cyclinder probably mounted close to or on the motor (wires come from it to the motor) .. they are not expensive .. you can take the old one with you to a motor parts place so they can match it up with a new one ..

while the motor is buzzing .. if you spin the blower it will start in whatever direction you spin it ... it will run until its shut off but then wont start on its own again ... changing the starting cap will fix that ..

SOURCE: Honeywell thermostat; Lennox elite series

When the furnace exceeds the temperature set by the thermostat, this could be indicative of several issues. The thermostat mounted crooked. When a thermostat isn't level on the wall, it can affect the automatic on/off function. To fix this problem, pop the cover off of the thermostat and loosen the screws attaching it to the wall. Straighten the device and tighten the screws.

If the thermostat is level and the temperature regulation system is still malfunctioning, the problem is most likely with the heat anticipator setting. The heat anticipator is a device inside the thermostat that governs when the furnace turns off. When the heat anticipator is on the fritz the furnace doesn't receive accurate direction, resulting in a heat system that either runs too long or not long enough. Usually, simply adjusting the heat anticipator, which is a small disc located underneath the thermostat cover, will fix this problem.

  • Temperature Does Not Reach or Exceeds Setting

  1. Thermostat is not level ? Use a level to realign thermostat.
  2. Anticipator not set correctly ? Adjust the anticipator.
  3. Thermostat not calibrated ? Recalibrate line voltage or low voltage thermostat.
  4. Range stop incorrect ? Clean thermostat and check .if same problem then,Replace thermostat.
  5. To clean thermostat.
  • Kill the power at the circuit breaker panel.
  • Remove the thermostat cover.
  • Clean the bimetal coil with a soft, clean brush.
  • Remove the thermostat body by unscrewing the retaining screws (on a round thermostat). Slide a piece of bond paper between the lever and contacts to clean them.
  • Reassemble the thermostat.

  • Thanks. keep updated for any more can rate this solution and show your appreciation.

    Cleaning instructions

Dirt is the biggest enemy of your furnace. It can waste fuel and drastically lower efficiency. Dirt affects all three basic components of your furnace, so cleaning is the most important part of regular maintenance. The three parts of the furnace should be cleaned: the filter system, the blower, and the motor.

The furnace filter should be replaced or cleaned at the beginning of the heating season and about once a month during periods of continuous use. To check the filter, take it out and hold it up to the light. If it looks clogged, replace it with a new filter of the same type and size regardless of the length of time it has been used.

Step 4: Clean blower assembly, belts and pulleys to blower, and motor housing. Cleaning blower is critical if furnace has a squirrel-cage fan, because openings in this type of blower often become clogged with dirt. To clean blower, remove panel that covers filter to gain access to blower or panel on front of furnace. This panel may be slip-fit on hooks or held by series of retaining screws. Access to inside of blower is usually gained by sliding out fan unit, which is held on track by screws.

If power cord to fan assembly is not long enough to permit fan unit to slide all the way out, disconnect cord. Mark wire connections first so you'll be able to reassemble unit correctly. With toothbrush, clean each fan blade and spaces between blades. Then, with vacuum cleaner hose, remove all dirt and debris loosened by brushing. Vacuum belts and pulleys. Wipe motor housing clean to prevent heat buildup in motor.

Have you checked the capacitor? Try spinning the blower wheel by hand, if this gets the motor going you have a bad capacitor. If not, the motor will need to be replaced.

Hello, a limit switch will open when the furnace overheats due to restricted airflow, check the blower wheel make sure it is clean and also make sure the blower motor is running at good speed and not dragging. Sometimes a weak capacitor can slow down a blower motor to the point that the limit switch will open. Not sure what kinda tune up the tech did but you dont replace a limit switch untill the cause of the limit switch opening is found.

While you may be able to get just a motor it will not save you much. You will also run the risk of damage to the housing or fan(s) when you take the old one apart and try to install a new motor. Unless the new blower unit is several hundred dollars I would recommend you replace the whole assembly.

The combustion blower is easy to replace. You may be able to prolong the life of the motor by applying lubrication to the shaft bearings. If the motor is too far gone then replacing it is the only option. Just remove the screws that mount the blower case to the heater, disconnect the wires and reverse the steps to install a new motor.

Carrier 58 Series Furnace Blower Motor Won't Shut Off

Yes. If the high limit is tripped, the furnace will bring on the fan continuously until the limit resets. Often, they will not reset if tripped repeatedly. If the furnace is too large for your application, you probably are not able to move enough air to keep the heat exchanger cool enough.
