No sound I upgraded to XP quite some time ago, but ever since I no longer have sound - I tried several speakers, but that did not work either. I think the speakers are supposed to be built in anyway?

Loss of sound : speakers are no longer working

the best solution is to buy a cheap set of desktop speakers. monitors have very very bad sound quality, so you will actualy notice an increase of sound quality upgrading to a cheap set of 10 to 20 dollar speakers.

I have an old Princeton VL 173 that I had been using with an old computer running Windows XP Pro. It works fine. Got a computer with an Asus MB and a Intel Core 2 Quad running Windows 7 Home Premium...

It sounds like a driver/software issue. When you ran the Princeton VL173 on XP you probably had all the correct software for your video card and the correct drivers to support your video output. When you changes OS to Windows 7, the XP drivers are no longer in place. My best guess is that you need to find and install the correct drivers for your system video and for your video card that are Windows 7 compatible. The old XP drivers will not work in Windows 7.

I am running XP with a Princeton VL173. It works great. I identified the correct video drivers for my system and installed them. My video card is nVidia 8800GT. I downloaded and installed the latest software from nVidia and installed it. It runs like a champ.

Several months ago my display died. It was just blank -- black. I tried using a power supply (AC adapter) from an old HP printer that died, and it worked! The plugs were identical, and the power output profiles were very nearly identical. It has been rinnung great for many months now.

I hope this helps.

The speakers no longer work. They were working 2

selectbanker, As a test only try this. Remove green plug from rear of pc. Find old am/fm stereo transistor radio or even a portable cd player and connect the green plug to your "new" audio source. Can you hear anything coming out of the monitor's speakers? Also try a set of stereo headphones in the green audio "out" jack to see if sound is coming out of the pc. Narrow down where loss of signal occurs first. 12fixlouie

Can I upgrade my CompaqMV720 computer from Windows ME to Windows XP? If so, how?

I would think that you mast likely can do it. You need a Windows XP disk with a legitimate install key (or Microsoft will give you a hassel). When you are ready to upgrade, turn on or restart your computer and press [Delete] to enter the BIOS. Go to the Boot menu and change the boot order so that your CD/DVD drive is first.
Open the drive and put Windows XP disk in. Press the F10 key to save the changes and exit. when the computer restarts, it will provide several start options. Choose the one that will install Windows XP. From there you just follow the prompts.

Monitor speakers not working

You need to reinstall the software driver for the sound card. Usually, a virus/mal/ad/spy-ware will disable sound quite readily!

Need Help With Speaker Problems

Have you tried the speakers on something else it could be the plug clapped out Thats a bold question when one says "I know the speaker is not defective,".....it sounds simple...but I think a little more common sense HERE!!! You might want to try some headphones if the sound comes out of the computer than the problem clearly lies with the speakers sometimes they may like they were going good but when on the move some strange things happen to the speakers that one cant quite fathom. I think your speakers have clapped out why Im positive they have.......goodluck
