GT 5/PS 3 frozen??

I purchased my PS 3 in February of '08. I never performed any updates.

I just rented Gran Turismo 5 from Blockbuster.

The screen stated that I had to perform updates. I followed all ons creen commands.

the screen now is frozen at:

confirmation

Accessing game data
Please do not swith off the PS 3 sysytem while the HDD access indicator is flashing

the OK is flashing the arrow is on the OK

When I press X (or any other button) nothing happens

What do I do? I know I am not to turn off the PS3.

Yep...Same problem. I also had to update. When it rebooted, the GT game went through two welcome screens and got hung up on "Confirmation: Accessing game data". I waited close to 5 minutes before figuring it was frozen. I exited correctly and rebooted the system once again. I also cleaned the disk thinking that might be the problem. And at last, I've given up and decided to look on line for a solution. Anybody know their way around this PS3 problem?

Exactly the same problem - however, my system is up-to-date.

Nothing I do will start the game of get past the Confirmation screen.

Returning this piece of junk tomorrow. Anyone thinking of buying GT5 for the PS3 think again - it simply doesn't work!

    Cheers

I had the exact same problem (and apparently many others did as well). I did have a Rock Band dongle plugged into the PS3 when the problem occurred. I don't know if that was a contributing factor or not. I unpluged the Rock Band dongle, then connected the (wireless) PS3 controller directly to the PS3 console with a USB cable, then I turned off the system and restarted it a few minutes later. I was then able to click on OK and proceed with the installation.

This happened to me and I just turned off my PS3 and turned it back on.  I did do some updating to the system as it's brand new but then I went back to GT5 it worked

Disconnect the console from any internet links, then try it again. Other then that, I would call sony to see what to do.

Can't download updates for Gran Turismo 5 Prolouge

Your internet connection may be firewalled. That is something you will have to configure on your PC

Either that or PS3 marketplace is down

Gran Tourismo 5 problem

Ensure PS3 is up to date, V.2.41. Also GT5 Prolouge Spec 2 should be intalled. This should clear any bugs in the system and sort GT5. A new update for GT5 is out on the 1st August.

If this is Gran Turismo 4 you are talking about, then if you still have the save file on your memory card from Gran Turismo 3 you can transfer your credits and all your license data over to Gran Turismo 4. In Gran Turismo 4 go to Home>Status>and it should give you an option somewhere on the bottom on the screen to transfer data, I think you press the square button. It has been a while since I've played Gran Turismo 4.
