I cant use the printer because is say to unlock the scanner and restart where is the scanner unlock he machine wont even let me get into the menu

Sir/Madam

MAKE SURE YOUR BROTHER MACHINE IS THE DEFAULT PRINTER

If the printer driver is not set as "default printer", you can not print. Make sure your Brother machine is set as default printer. If your brother machine is not set as default printer, set it as default printer.

1. Click Apple Menu and choose System preferences..., click Print & Fax, Print & Scan or Printers & Scanners.
2. Choose from pull down menu of "default printer".

DELETE ALL PRINTER JOBS

1. Click Apple Menu and choose System preferences....

2 Click Print & Fax, Print & Scan or Printers & Scanners.

For Mac OS X 10.5 - 10.7 users
Choose the print job (1) and click Delete (2).



CHECK THE PRINTER STATUS

Choose brother machine's icon and click "Open Print Queue..." then check the printer status.

The Resume or Resume printer icon which is surrounded by red lines is displayed in printing when the printer is out of paper or the printer is turned off and on. Click Resume or Resume printer.

For Mac OS X 10.8 or later users




For Mac OS X 10.5 - 10.7 users


If you connect the brother printer via USB cable, the error message The printer is not connected or Offline is displayed on Print Queue when the USB cable is disconnected or the brother printer is turned off. Connect the USB cable and turn the brother machine on.

For Mac OS X 10.8 or later users




For Mac OS X 10.5 - 10.7 users






If the other error message is displayed on Print Queue, check if the LCD display or LED indication of your Brother machine is not showing some error. If an error is displayed, go to the Troubleshooting section and find a solution.


REGISTER THE PRINTER ICON AGAIN

1. Choose your printer icon.
2. Click [-] button to delete the printer icon.

1. Click [+] button to register the printer icon again.

In spite of if you click [+] button, the brother machine is not displayed, then the brother machine is not recognized.

If you use the printer via USB connection, reconnect the USB cable or restart the Macintosh or your brother machine.

For Mac OS X 10.4 users

Access the internal maintenance mode by pressing the Menu/Set button, then press * 2 8 6 4 within 2 seconds. This should put you in the maintenance mode menu. Enter 80, then scroll down with the arrow down (round) key. You'll find an entry listed as purge count. If number is over 6000, enter 2 7 8 3.

This will reset the purge count value. Then the printer will restart, hopefully without the annoying cannot clean message.OR

I have just read it on the other forum..try this one
Error Code 5020:
Scanner lock switch locked. [5020] Release the scanner lock switch and turn the power
off and back on.
Turn the machine off, unlock the scanner lock
switch, then turn the machine on again.

This is an Issue with scanner

To restore the factory-set defaults
On the all-in-one control panel, press Menu.
Use the < or the > button to select Service, and then press .
Use the < or the > button to select Restore defaults, and then press .
The all-in-one automatically restarts.

Note: This procedure clears fax numbers and names that are associated with one-touch keys and speed-dial codes, and deletes any pages that are stored in the memory. The procedure then automatically restarts the all-in-one

You can also trun off the printer, and clean the scanner bed.

If still wont work, call HP (1-800-474-6836) or take it the HP service center.

Release the lock, down the scanner is a tiny plastic piece between the oupt tray (the place where the paper goes out) and the top of the scanner

From my own experience with the HP C3180 you do need the HP software installed to use the scanner, probably why you cant use it over your network!

Inside the print tray (where the paper comes out) on the upper right there is a blue lever. Pull it toward you and that will unlock the scanner. I just did this and restarted my printer and it worked! Hope this helps!

HI...the desing of brother printer that remove the back cover thing it is kinda confius to user...the back cover is to REMOVE paper THAT STUCK and you need to close it back..and it wont remove the error message coz it dont have sensor on the cover you need to lift up your scanner then close it it will continue.... The problem you have accour is you MainBoard need to be reinstall or replace coz it has be shock by the usb that your pc sending Data on it then you have cancel it...Try get to engineer this problem cant be solve by user....Thank

remove the lock from scanner,switch on scanner and restart you computer. bye
