Hello maury jones,

  • Make sure that the cartridges are placed in the correct slots. Also ensure that they are seated properly.
  • Make sure the contacts are not dirty. You can try cleaning them with some isopropyl alcohol and a cotton bud.
  • Make sure you have the proper settings in the printer properties.
  • Dont use refilled cartridges. Ensure you only use original products.
  • If the basic troubleshooting steps dont work, try reinstalling the latest version of your printer's driver. You can find the latest drivers HERE. Make sure you choose the correct OS!
  • Should all this fail, you will probably want to get your machine serviced.
Hope that helps! Don't forget to rate this solution a fixya if it helped you in any way :)

Cheers!

PS..forgot to mention, don't forget the nozzle test. Also ensure that you clean the head of the cartridge with a cotton swab dipped in isopropyl alcohol to clean off any dried ink that may be resident there.

Hi,

You need to make the procedure of head cleaning several times after replace the cartridge, cause sometimes some air get inside the print head in the replace. Sometimes you have to repeat the cleaning procedure 10 times. Do a test after each procedure of cleaning, and watch when it was enough.

Goodluck,

Printer HP Deskjet D1460 prints pink"..Instead of Black

The printed colours are an "additive" mix of the "primary" colours in your printer.

So, when the colour ink-jet cartridge is "out-of-ink" on one (or more) of its colours, the "mix" will be off, and the "wrong" colour will be the result.

Change the colour cartridge.

Before changing it, run a "deep-cleaning" cycle, using the HP Support software that was installed when you installed from the CD-ROM that came with the printer, to "clean" any/all "clogged" ink-jets -- i.e., a clog could be preventing one colour of ink from being sprayed onto the paper.

I have a X3350 Lexmark printer. I do not require color printing at any time. How can I print black only using one black cartridge only. The color cartridge is never used.

let the colour cartridge be inside the printer.if its empty then also black will print.but its necessay that the colour cartridge should be in the printer as without the colour cartridsge in the printer the circuit does not gets completed.but the cartridge should be inside the printer if its empty no problem you can just print in black it will print.

My printer will not accept a new black cartridge.

ITS NOT THE BLACK CARTRIDGE!!! Try changing the colour cartridge and see what happens. When a 9600 checks ink levels it does the black ink first, then the colour, if the colour is low it goes back and checks the black again but will constantly give an error message for the black cartridge. Sounds bizarre but try just the black cartridge in with no colour. print a test page in black only, if that does not print then it is a fault. Also make sure the driver is updated!!!

Possible to print only black when colour cartridges are empty?

This printer does not let you print if even one of the cartidges is out of ink. I suggest you replace them and then in the printer properties change your settings to the way you want color to be spent.

Not print and not scann without colour cartridge

All cartridges must be present before the printer will operate. Essentially black is obtained by printing all colours together. Some makes/models of printer will allow black printing only for text printing. This is a printer 'PROPERTIES' function and you will have to seek this out by reading the manual fully.
