Question about Zoom X6 (5590) DSL Modem (55900003)

1 Answer

Limited connectivity I am having a torrid time with my Zoom x6. It will connect fine when in unsecured mode, but as soon as i turn on wep or wpa encryption, the wireless pcs will not connect - they come up with limited or no connectivity. I have gone to the router and hard coded the IP and DNS - this results in full connection but no browsing. I didn't put anything in default gateway as i couldn't find any setting for this. any ideas please

We've tried that, ie rebooted laptops logged in again, rebooted router logged in again - it simply will not connect

  • duneider May 08, 2008

we've checked the firewall which says`"advanced Firewall filtering" Disabled and "Intrusion Detection" Enabled.

We;ve gone back to factory settings again, ie pin on the reset button - but the ssid remained at our new name, one laptop would not connect - no encryption - another one would. Werenamed the SSID and now both connect.

Is this us or is it the router?

    Answer

i dont have answer but the reason for reset not working is you have to press 7 times see below

WARNING: Before proceeding, be sure to take screen shots of or back up your modem's configuration using the Backup/Restore Confguration feature on the Advance Setup page. You will need to restore your modem's configuration as hard resetting the modem will revert it back to its factory default settings.

    For X6 Model 5590CF only:

You have a "CF" model version if the ETHERNET ports on the modem's back panel are color-coded yellow.

    • Using a straightened paperclip or something similar, press the RESET button (located on the back panel) 7 times, once per second. If you have done this successfully, the POWER light on the front panel will turn red each time you press the RESET button.
    • After about 10 seconds after the 7th press, the POWER light will turn red and then back to green. Or, if you are looking at the back of the modem, the lights above any connected Ethernet cable will go off briefly after the 7th press.
    • The rest of the lights on the front panel label will turn off. Please wait until the DSL light starts to blink again.
    • All settings stored in the modem have been reset to factory default. Now you can restore your modem's configuration.

    For X6 Model 5590, 5590AF, or 5590BF:

You have an original, "AF," or "BF" model version of the LAN ports on the modem's back are NOT color-coded yellow.

    • Using a straightened paperclip or something similar, press the RESET button (located on the back panel) several times fast until the STATUS light on the front panel turns red briefly.
    • All of the lights except PWR will go off. Please wait until the LINK light starts to blink again.
    • All settings stored in the modem have been reset to factory default. Now you can restore your modem's configuration.

Hi Duneider!
It's normal that your computers will not connect after you enable a wireless security (WEP/WPA). You are getting a limited or no connectivity message because the wireless computers are not connected to the network using the network key or the password that you have used to setup WEP or WPA. There is no need in hard conding the IP address, all you need to do is reconnect to the wireless network using the WEP or WPA Key. If you will type the correct WEP or WPA Key, it will connect and automatically get the IP address again from your router.

Ok have tried to updated the f/w of your router? because if all of your computers can't get an ip address though they have the correct network key, it's possible that it's a problem with the router.

I dont no how to connect to wi-fi

First of all, turn on your DS. Then navigate to the wrench which is "System Settings."
Select "Internet" and then select "Connection Settings."
Search for the connection your best choice and will display all possible networks in the area. You do this by selecting "search for an access point." You may choose from wireless networks that are unsecured and do not require a password, or networks that are secure with WEP and do require a password.
If you have WPA secured connection simply select "change security settings" to enter a WPA key.
You should be connected.
BE AWARE, some secure connections are not allowed. You can change these on your routers local ip to either WEP or WPA.

Wirless works for the netwoek but cannont connect laptops or i pods. they pick up the router but every password showing on the set up pages denies access

The router's password is a Passphrase or the WEP or WPA orWPA2 encryption key. The Passphrase generates the WEP or WPA or WPA2 encryptionkey and this is in the router's wireless settings. To connect to your wireless router, it needs the router'swireless settings configured ie SSID, WPA or WPA2 encryption key and also thewireless cards in all the laptops and or computers needs to be configured withthese router's wireless settings. Then the laptops and desktop computers cancommunicate with your wireless router.

Can't connect ipod to Zoom adsl x6 modem.

I found if I removed the WEP security on an X6 the Ipod connected without any problem.
I tried WPA and WPA2, and these won't connect either.
The password it wants it the one you used to generate your WEP code when you first set up the router. If you don't know what that is, then you'll have to reconfigure it with anew one.
Also, an IPod Touch may connect if you choose Other connection in it's network settings, and then tell it to connect to WEP.

Cant hookup to wireless

The DS can only connect to unsecured wireless or wireless with WEP security. If your router is using WPA, the DS can not connect to it. I heard the DSi can use WPA but I have not confirmed that yet.

Note, I do not recommend unsecuring your wireless or using WEP. If you must use the DS wirelessly, it may be better to get a nintendo dongle/USB stick or another wireless router that you can lock down to prevent unauthorized access to your primary network.

After installing the router it was working fine. I went in to set up wireless security and now the internet light stays red.

Probably means that the security is turned on, if the wireless doesn't work even after you have entered the right password then press and hold the reset button on the back of the router to restore it to defaults - factory defaults just like it was first powered on.

Zoom X6 Adsl Router

You must assign a static IP address on the Xbox 360 that it is outside of the Zoom X6 router's DHCP pool. Also, the Xbox 360 must be in a DMZ. This will prevent the firewall of the router from blocking connections to the Xbox 360.
  1. Assign a Static IP address on the Xbox 360 console:
    • Power on your Xbox 360 and go to the System area.
    • Select Network Settings and then Edit Settings.
    • Select IP Settings. The Edit IP Settings screen opens.
    • Select Manual and then enter the following settings:
      • IP Address: 10.0.0.150 (or any 10.0.0.x IP address, where x is between 100 and 250)
      • Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
      • Gateway: 10.0.0.2
    • Select Done, to go back to the Edit Settings screen.
    • Select DNS Settings. The Edit DNS Settings screen opens.
    • Select Manual and then enter the following setting:
      • Primary DNS Server: 10.0.0.2
      • It is not necessary to enter a Secondary DNS Server.
    • Select Done.
    • Power down your Xbox 360.
  2. Access the Zoom Configuration Manager:
    • From a computer that is connected to the Zoom X6, open a web browser and type http://10.0.0.2 in the address line and then press Enter (or Return).
    • Enter the User Name and Password (in lowercvase letters):
      • User Name: admin
      • Pasword: zoomadsl (where "l" is a lowercase letter L)
  3. Create a Virtual Server rule to put the Xbox 360 on a DMZ:
    • In the Zoom Configuration Manager, click on the Advanced Setup icon at the top page.
    • Click on the Virtual Server/DMZ button.
    • On the Virtual Server/DMZ page, enter the following settings:
      • Internal IP Address: 10.0.0.150 (or whichever Static IP address you selected per Step 1)
      • Protcol: DMZ
      • Start Port: 0
      • End Port: 0
    • Click Save Changes
    • Click the Enable box, if you have this option.
    • Click Write Settings to Flash
  4. Plug the Xbox 360 Wireless Networking Adapter in to the Xbox 360 console. If you are not sure how to do this, please refer to the manual that came with the Adapter.
  5. Select the Zoom wireless network on the Xbox 360. (Note: The following steps assume you have a working wireless network with WEP or WPA security enabled and you know the Key and SSID of the network. If you have not done this, please refer to theFAQ on setting up a wireless network with the Zoom X6.)
    • Power on your Xbox 360 and go the System area.
    • Select Network Settings and then Wireless Network.
    • Enter the SSID of your network
    • Enter the Security Key for your wireless encryption. This must be either WPA or WEP. If you use WEP, you must enter the HEX digits for the Key you are using.
    • Power the Xbox 360 off, wait a few seconds, and then power the Xbox 360 back on.
    • Go to the System area.
    • Select Network Settings.
    • Select Test Xbox Live Connection. If everything is configured correctly, all the tests will show Pass.
  6. Congratulations! You can now enjoy your Xbox 360 with Xbox Live.

I have a Belkin FSD9230-4 wireless router, it says it is unsecured when I go on using my laptop. How do I secure the wireless connection?

You will have to login to the router's web utility, go to wireless security settings, and choose either WEP, or WPA. After selecting one of the two you will need to select a passphrase which you will need the next time you connect. I suggest WPA personal, because it offers a stronger encryption method than wep, making it more secure.

zoom x6 in full bridged mode Good Morning all, I have searched google and these forums, but can not seem to figure out what is going wrong with my port forwarding. Problem: Can not ssh to internal server. Setup: ADSL WAN line connected to the RJ11 jack on my Zoom x6 (model 5590C). Zoom router is currently set to FULL Bridged mode. Cat6 cable is connected to Port 1 on the Zoom router, the other end of the cable is connected to the WAN port of my WRT54GL (running Tomato v1.23). Other linux boxes are connected to the LAN ports of the WRT54GL. I am able to see the Internet from all computers on the Local Lan inside of the WRT54GL. In Tomato I see the Public WAN IP that is being passed to it via the Zoom router. WAN IP: 9x.xx.xx.xx LAN IP: 10.xx.xx.xx/28 LAN DHCP: is on and working correctly. Port forwarding->Basic->Has the following (lets use port 55555): On |||| Proto |||| Src Addr |||| Ext Prots |||| Int Ports |||| Int Addr |||| Description X |||| TCP |||| [left blank] |||| 55555 |||| 55555 |||| 10.xx.xx.14 |||| ssh server Now I have no special Iptable rules added to the WRT54GL as of yet... since I can't ssh in yet either.. The server have port 55555 entered in its /etc/ssh/sshd_config and I can access this by all computers on the internal LAN, so the server config is good. But I cannot access anything if I am coming in thru the WAN. nmap shows that all normal ports are filtered, which is good, but if I run: nmap -P0 -sV 9x.xx.xx.xx -p55555 The reply is also filtered. When I try to ssh to my WAN IP from the WAN it times out. Tomato logs are not seeing the attempted scans, though iptables is reporting 'DROP's from other things on the Internet. When I dump the Tomato Iptables config it appears to be right to me and unfortunately I did not bring a copy of them to work with me today. Has anyone else had this problem? Is there anything that I need to explain further or that is not clear in my post? ANY input on this would be GREATLY appreciated, even if its just a link to something that might help. Thank you all in advance!
