How do I find a repair person for a LaCie 1 TB external drive?

it may be a bad drive and depending what is on it it would be very evpensive to fix. you can remove the drive from the case and plug it in another computer with a spare sata slot and try it. if it wont spin up it is bad. only three definits in life: death, taxes and hard drive crashes. sorry hope that it will work on anothe computer.

I would try backing up any data you need to a PC it works with and then try formatting it with a full format not a quick format then try plugging it into a computer which it normally crashes with while it is still blank. If that is working copy your data back and see what happens. ...cheers from Scott

try to test it on other computer or laptop... if the unit are still exist maybe your problem would be the external drive..there are no switch button on it, because most of the switches are located on the adapter, the only testing you could do is to test it to other unit..If the external drive are ok once after you test from other PC's, then might as well check your USB port by plugging-in to other port...or try to use other power supply on your computer, co'z sometimes the supply can no longer supplied any voltage coming from your external drive once it plug-in..

I have a Dell Inspiron 1318. Blue screen that says BUGCODE_USB_DRIVER. I recently reformat my laptop and when i installed my drivers, it was successfully installed except the External USB driver.. Why is...

Blue screen problems are awful to try and cure.
Mostly what happens is the system runs out of virtual memory and crashes with a whole host of apparent reasons.
Check your RAM for errors and try running CHKDSK/F regularly in case of hard drive errors.
All I can suggest for the External USB driver is maybe it is to do with whatever you were plugging in at the time. As long as all of your drivers came from Dell's web site and are the latest versions, you should be alright.

Out of the blue my computers quit recognizing the device.....

Probably not the right answer for your problem. Mine is an external 1 TB Simple Drive. Mine wouldn't respond at all. I unplugged the power cable from the back of the hard drive and replugged it in and instantly it worked (with the computer and hard drive plugged in). I had tried rebooting the computer, plugging/unplugging over and over into the computer and that didn't work.

Hard drive crashed

you may try to insert your hard drive to an external hard drive casing then plug it to a pc as an external drive then check if it can still be detected. From there you can copy the files to the computer.

hope this helps . . .

My external hard drive has stopped working and is

I advice you backup all your data from that drive immediately. It is starting to crash.
After your backup you can test this by going to Start --> Run then type in CMD and press enter. A black screen will open. In the black screen type the folowing: CHKDSK /F /R E: where E: is the drive letter of your drive and press enter ( if your drive letter is different then type in the letter you see for your drive in My Computer. Then restart your computer. After restart it will say that a disk check has been scheduled, just let it run through ( this could take quite some time..., a few hours on a TB drive. ).
