SOURCE: gsw-22 nameplate data

It will handle a load of 6 amps when connected to 120 volts ac, or if connected to 240 volts ac, will only handle 3 amps load. Regardless of any rating on the switch, ALWAYS !!, SHUT POWER OF TO ANYTHING ELECTRICAL BEFORE WORKING ON IT.!! No hollering at you, just want it emphasized to be sure you stay safe, and alive. Look at what your powering with this switch for an amp rating on it. If amp rating is higher than switch is rated at, don't use it, in case of fire.

SOURCE: I am replacing the 3

Use a continuity tester on old switch.
There will be 1 main wire that connected to power >>> power flows through this wire to the switch and feeds the other 3 wires > each time you click switch, power will flow to one of the other three wires

The do the same test on new switch. Match up wires accordingly.

If you don't have a multimeter, buy inexpensive continuity tester at hardware store.
Continuity tester is basically a flashlight battery and flashlight bulb that lights up when the circuit is closed

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly.
You wire it up in series... Usually you cut the black wire and install the switch wires between the cut wires. All the switch does is open 1/2 of the circuit. (one leg) If your power wire is not black then find the power wire attach one side of the wire to incoming power and attach the other side of the switch to the load / light / fan / what ever.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,

There are 2 type switches. First type will have spring loaded connectors that hold wire into each hole. To remove these, press on slot on bottom of switch with a little screwdriver & pull wire out. Repeat for each wire. Each wire on switch has a number. Just push wire in replacement switch with corresponding number & it will click in & stay in. The other type switch will have little wire nuts attached to each individual wire within 6 inches of switch. Untwist each wire & reattach to new switch.

High and Medium don't work, only low

Check your capacitors to see if they're bad. That's the black box near the pull chain switch with wires going to the switch. If bad call 1-888-830-1326 Hunter parts.
2 wire part # 74132-01-000 ( probably not this one)
Other capacitor part # 74133-05-000 (probably this one)

My old ceiling fan capacitor has A B C D on the back , the new capacitor has 1 2 3 4, how do I connect the new one????

I just changed out an old ADCB (172-90-001 / 1-81-M) fan speed switch with a L123 3 speed switch (Westinghouse 77286). My fan was only 2 speed but the 3 speed switch was all the Home Depot had in stock. So I knew I would have OFF occurring twice in the pull sequence. Its an old Hunter fan that came with the house.

A-Unused
B-Went to 1 (Blue Wire)
C-Went to 2 (Red Wire)
D-Went to L (Black Wire)

I originally put B (the Blue Wire) into spot 3, leaving 1 unused. But that made the pull order go OFF-OFF-LOW-HIGH.

So moving the Blue Wire to the 1 slot resulted in OFF-HIGH-LOW-OFF

Hope this helps!

Hunter fan with pull switch - has high spped and low speed but no medium. How do I fix this?

Try replacing the pull switch which is located under light attachment on bottom of fan. If no light it is under cap located on bottom of fan. You can purchase this switch at Lowes or WalMart.

Hunter Ceiling fan lost medium speed, kept hi and low. Speed control capacitor melted. Replaced both capacitors (speed and start) AND switch. Still no medium speed. Is it possible part of the motor...

well, they could have. but before you throw it out, go to the hardware store, and buy a new pull switch. either that, or just run it with the high and low speeds. It shouldn't hurt it at all. But, if there is any clicking sounds, or wierd noises coming from it , DON'T USE IT!! it may catch fire. but it did last a long time. 20 years is good for a modern celing fan. though I like my antique 1907 westinghouse 72 inch 2 blade fan. It hasn't died yet!!!

Fan works on high and low ok but in medium it runs at low speed.

Sounds like the speed control switch has been replaced recently, or one of the capacitors in the black brick in the switch housing has failed. Most modern fans use a double capacitor for medium and low. High is wired straight across the run capactor (which is usually 2 wire by itself, or all three capacitors may be in one big black brick)

The symptoms you describe suggest that the speed capacitor has failed. Typically they are 5+5MFD, or two in one case On Medium both 5MFD capacitors are activated, but on low only one is activated. The capacitors serve as a "choke" that limits the amount of current getting to the motor (not voltage, but amperage)

Find out the manufacturer of the fan and if it is Hunter, their number is 1-901-745-9222. Tell them the model# of your fan and they shall get you hooked up with a new cap.

My hunter remote control ceiling fan doesn't go real fast. the highest speed is what a normal fan would do on medium. is there a fix?

if you have pull chain switches in addition to the remote control, your pull chain switch may be set to Medium, which would make the fan run on a maximum of medium speed.

Hunter's remote systems are notorious for failures. We replaced ours before the fan was one year old, and then it did it again within a year after that. The warranty, of course was on the ORIGINAL part, not the new part, so Hunter will never help you out, even though their remote receivers (the part in the fan) are junk!

3 speed Hunter Fan only has 2 speeds

Assuming that the unit was wired properly from the factory and without being able to look at the switch I would have to agree that the switch is bad. The different speeds are obtained by having a different winding for each speed. If the unit was wired properly at the factory and never had three different speeds then the switch is not rotating between all the contacts. The switch should only be a couple of dollars and would certainly be a cheap solution to try. You can check the existing switch by removing it from the circuit completely and checking the continuity with a DMM from the input to each output as you switch it. Continuity should move from one to two to three. If not the switch is bad. If the switch checks out OK then you have a bad winding in the fan and probably need a new unit. Good luck.
