This is unfortunately something called the Yellow Light of Death (YLOD). It is generally caused by overheating or a hardware failure of some kind. It could be the graphics processing unit, the central processing unit, the memory or anything else. The most common cause of it is when the solder under the GPU or CPU gets so hot that hairline cracks appear in it and there is not a good electrical contact. There are some guides out there that explain the process of "reflowing" the GPU and CPU, this involves using a heat gun to re-melt the solder between the chip and the circuit board but it is a hit and miss process. Even it you could fix it, it is not guaranteed to last. Sometimes you may get a couple of days out of it, sometimes months. If you really want to have a go at repairing it yourself look up yellow light of death fix. I plan to do a tip guide on here soon of how to do it so I can refer to that. Failing that if you really dont fancy having a go at it, if the console is under warranty get hold of Sony and they will replace it for you. If it is out of warranty and you don't want to fix it yourself you can always stick it on ebay to help towards the cost of another PS3, they usually go for around £50 in a faulty condition.

I dropped my ps3 it works but when i turn it on the green light apperas then in two seconds i8t makes the reset noise then turns yellow then red. The red light then continues to flash. What do I do now

Hello

With the PS3 in Standby mode (Red light on), press and hold the Start button until you hear a single beep, followed by double beeps.

Connect the controller using USB cable and press the PS button on the controller.

Now, the system restore screen will come up

You have several options here for restoring the system, some will unfortunately wipe up all your data, others will make you lose the file naming.

Good luck

After pressing the on button it turns green for 5 seconds then it flashes yellow/orange for a second then it flashes red.

Yellow Light of DeathThe "Yellow Light of Death" or YLOD is the common phrase people use to describe the following sequence when they try to turn on their PS3:

  • Press Power Button
  • Red Light Flashes Three Times
  • Yellow Light Flashes
  • Green Light Flashes
  • Beeps Three Times
  • Red Light Flashes

The sequence above may vary a bit but you do see the flashing yellow light (sometimes shows up as orange) that normally you would not see when operating your PS3. The YLOD is a general hardware fault that can mean a lot of things. However, one of the problems is cracked solder that leads the PS3 to think one of its internal chips is not connected or is broken somehow. Cracked solder can happen when the chips get too hot (RSX most likely) and leads the motherboard to start bending, which may crack the solder. Changing the power supply (lower the average wattage going to the chips to lower the heat) and better thermal compound (heat dissipates faster to the heatsink) may prevent this error from occurring. However, if your PS3 has already had the YLOD, then you can reflow your motherboard every few months to keep it working (but it is not a permanent fix as the YLOD usually comes back).

My playstation has the light trun green yellow flashing red light

With your PS3 turned off, press and hold the Power button on the front of the PS3 for about 10 seconds (the system will beep as normal as it starts up but after 7-10 seconds it will beep again). The video settings should now be reverted. Doing this will also reset any theme settings. try this? seems to fix alot of issues.

PL-CS55 headset lifts receiver but only get buzzing sound in

Try a system reset:
1. Lift the headset off of the charging cradle (the base).  Make sure the headset is turned off.  The green light on the base won't be on if the headset is turned off. 2. Hold down the call answer button on the headset at the same time as mute button.  The mute button is found on the little black wheel on the top of the headset.  Use the tip of your finger to push it straight in. 3. Hold both buttons until you see a green light on the headset flash.  It will be right below your thumb.  Hold both buttons until the green light flashes for a series of 2 flashes.  Then let go of both buttons. 4. Put the headset back on the charging cradle and wait 30 seconds.  Lift it back off and try again. 5. If this doesn't work repeat the process once more or try a resubscription.
Resubscription procedure:
1. Put the headset back onto the charging cradle.  Make sure the red light on the base is on and the yellow light is flashing. 2. On the back of the base there are two buttons for the microphone adjustment that can be pressed down.  Press both of those down until the red light and yellow light on the front of the base start flashing. 3. While the headset is still on the charging cradle press and hold the mute button until the red light on the base goes solid, and the yellow light stays flashing. 4. Unplug the power to the base and then plug it back in. 5. Wait 20 seconds and try.
