Print Color

I just replaced the black cartridge, but the color cartridge is still empty. I'm trying to print files in black, but the printer keeps trying to use the color, and everything comes out in pale color. I've tried cleaning the nozzles, setting the ink color in the utility menu, to no avail. To confuse the issue, some files will print black, and some won't.
