Hello

OK, well, this sounds to me like a blown CCD. Try taking a photo, if the photo turns out the same, it is most probably a CCD.

You can take the camera to your nearest repair shop, they will be able to inform you on the exact repairing cost.

Hope this can steer you in the right direction.

Kind regards
Andrea

No image/sound mesage when I try to view pictures taken

I would try formatting the card, and trying with new pictures. If that does not work, you may need a new main board. The main boards on that model are prone to problems. You will have to decide if it is worth fixing, if formatting does not fix it. If you want to sell this camera, contact me at: mrfixitmark at comcast dot net I can use this camera for parts.

I can fix this for $40, or you can send it to Pentax in Arizona, they will replace the LCD for about $90. If you just want to get rid of this camera, I also buy all Pentax Option a10, a20, a30, a40 cameras.

Pentax Optio A40 - takes pictures but cannot see them on the screen. There is no viewer window so difficult to see if a picture is taken

If you are saying that the screen never works, then it is simply a broken LCD screen. I can replace the screen for $40, or you can buy the parts on eBay for about $25 and do it yourself if you are very handy, and very skilled with small delicate parts. You could send it to Pentax in Arizona, but they charge about $90 for an LCD replacement. If you just want to get rid of this camera, I also buy all Pentax Option a10, a20, a30, a40 cameras. Broken LCD screen on my digital camera.

even though you buy it in ebay, never open up the digital camera by yourself. take it to the nearest service centre to get it done. i am saying this since the parts inside are highly sensitive and pre calibrated.thanks for using fixya!. please dont forget to rate my solution.

Display screen went white..

your screen is not connected inside your camera it is easy to reconnect as there is a cellophane tab carrying copper connectors that are held in with a plastic clip which has probably unclipped itselfyou need a watch makers screwdriver (small possidriver a eye glass and a pair of small strong tweezers) work on a clean table so if you drop the small screws they can be easily found 6small screws in allI replaced my own screenthat I got fromASAHI PHOTO LTD MDDX on ebaycost was £39 .95 and a genuine replacement screen a doddle to do as it requires no soldering just a bit fiddly hope this helps
