Question about Water Heaters

Open Question

Ariston microcombi 23 MFFI. Boiler lights and goes to lockout after 30 seconds, if I remove casing or secondary air inlet works normally, it seems like a lack of combustion air but I can not find out why. Have fitted new thermistors, overheatstat and pressureswitch, checked flue is clean and cleaned burners.

Won't put this as a solution because you said you checked the flue but this sounds like the inner flue is come apart. It contaminates the fresh air being drawn in via the outer flue. Try to look at the flame with the case closed; does the flame lift off the burner and go yellowy before it locks out. If so check the inner flue connections.

    Thanks Poshpoms,
a good thought but is not the problem. Have totally stripped combustion chamber and flueways, cleaned burner and everything else and checked venturi`s.
Reassembled everything, and the problem still exists, the gas valve has a slight chatter but the symptons all point to a lack of combustion air, this one has got me beaten at the moment,
I am wondering if it is a pcb problem.
    regards Brent T

See your problem. Really can't see how it can be a PCB fault but it sounds like you've reached that stage when you need to try everything. Flame rectification needs a good earth to work properly, might check that but it doesn't explain why it works ok when you give it direct air. Worked for Vaillant for 10 ten years in UK but I'm not up with Ariston combi's so i will have to leave you with it. Best of luck.

SOURCE: Radiator Leak rust

what part is leaking ?what type of set up do you have? steam or water
make sure you completely drained and refill the system before use. your water level needs to be corrected or this will force water up the lines instead of steam
your radiators need to be pitched so that the steam (water) can return back when the system shuts off
as for the leak. where it is or what part is leaking
heres a manual for your system

SOURCE: Moved in house Monday &

turn both valves off at each side of radiator and once the pressure balances it will stop leaking, there is no solution to this whilst using this as a radiator to heat the space, but will stop the leak.

SOURCE: pilot light on boiler

The plumbers repair should be guaranteed, give him a call back.
It sounds to me that the pilot flame needs to be adjusted or the thermocouple is not aligned properly or there is a draft that is blowing out the pilot.
Good luck...

I am not getting any hot water, only cold water, when I run my hot water taps. I have an Ariston Bravo water heater. Normally I have permanent hot water at any time. My central heating seems to be...

Sounds like the by-pass valve diaphragm. This valve detects that hot water is being drawn off at the tap and then diverts the mains input water across the heat exchanger. Very often it's the diaphragm inside the valve which is punctured or split. This can be replaced [depending on model] if you take apart the valve
. Remove the front panel and lower the control panel. The valve is at the bottom left of the boiler
Suggest turning off the service taps to the two heating pipes and the cold mains inlet pipes before tackling the valve
