Question about Frigidaire FDB520RHS Full Console Dishwasher with 4 Wash Cycles 4 Wash Lev

1 Answer

Apparently the springs on my door are either not connected or they need to be adjusted. If I were to open the door and not hold it with my hands, it would immedaitely fall wide open. No tension exists on the springs. I just assumed they were supposed to be this way since this is such an inexpensive dishwasher. However I recently examined the same model dishwasher in a home improvement store and the door has tension just as I would have normally expected. How do I solve this problem? Do I have to disassemble the dish washer (which would be impossible for me to do. I am not mechanically inclined whatsoever.)? Thanks very much. Randy Streetman

I had the same problem on my Dishwasher . There should be 2 screws underneath the top front part of the dishwasher. They hold the unit in place. Easy to get to. Open the door and look up. Pull out the 2 screws that are screwed into the underneath of the front cabinet.

This should allow you to pull (slide) out the unit just enough to see the springs ( aprox 1 ft ) on both sides on the bottom of unit. Inspect the springs. Mine had broke on one side where it clips into the holder.

I just inserted the spring in the proper tension hole to match the other side . I spun it around 1 turn as to hold it in place and then connected the top of spring it its proper place. This gave equal tension on both springs and the door works fine now.

Eventually I will buy a new spring and replace it but at least it works fine for now.

If even one spring has been disconnected the door will fall with out any tension what so ever. I'm guessing maybe just one spring has either come out or broke where it clips into the hole.

Is there a battery in the Craftsman 315 MHz Garage Door Opener Premium Control Console?

The Premium Control Console on the inside wall of the garage is hard-wired to the garage door opener. When I've needed to press and hold the button on the unit, there's usually something wrong with the opener or the garage door hardware.

The problem could be with the travel or force adjustments. However, more likely, the door is binding during travel or the garage door opener gears are damaged. Disconnect the door from the opener and check how it opens and closes. Is the door binding anywhere? Check if the rails are bent or if the framing of the door has rotted at the bottom. (We had one garage door where the door jamb was damaged. This led to the doorway shrinking and the door jamming.) If you open the door part-way, does it stay at that position? Do this test carefully; you may get injured if the door falls. If it doesn't stay open, then the torsion spring tension may need off or the springs need to be replaced. If the springs are mounted next to the doorway, you need a professional to check the springs. (If the torsion springs are further from the door, you may want a professional to check them. You will need to use vise grips or a similar tool to keep the door partway up and prevent it from falling when you adjust the tension. You will need to adjust both sides evenly.)

When you press and release the garage door opener button, how far does the door travel? Do the opener lights blink three times? Are both obstruction sensor (often green and amber) lights lit? Please add a comment with more information about the symptoms for additional help.

I hope this helps.

Cindy Wells
(note: when there is a problem with the door binding or the torsion springs failing, it's not uncommon to see the garage door opener fail. The motor tried to force the door and the plastic gears end up stripped. You may need to replace or repair the opener after fixing the door hardware issue.)

Broken sprocket coupler

Could be. Yet you may only need to adjust the springs and not replace them.. In case you have roll up/ sectional garage door, it should be quite easy you need to release the traveler from the rail so you can open and close the door manually/by hand then, while open the door on the knee level leave the door. If it falls down the springs need adjustment.
In general the door should stay at the same position on every stage it is while pulling it up and down.
If the door falls/ closes down not enough tension on springs, if door opens up too much tension on springs. If door acts funny.like close when close to the floor and jump up when its futher more open, it means that you don't have the matching springs for the weight of your garage.

How to install new door spring on portable dishwasher

Things You'll Need:
  • Owner's manual
  • Screwdriver
  • Replacement spring (optional)
  1. Turn off the power to your Kenmore dishwasher before attempting any repairs. If you have a portable Kenmore dishwasher, you can just unplug the power cord from the wall. Built-in dishwashers are hard-wired into the cabinet, so you will have to turn off the breaker switch at the home's circuit breaker box to cut the power.
  2. 2 Remove the screws that hold the kickplate onto the lower front of the Kenmore dishwasher. Take the kickplate off to access the door springs.
  3. Check the door springs to make sure they have not come loose from the door support or the adjustment holes on the dishwasher. Re-attach any ends that have slipped off their connections.
  4. Replace the springs if they are connected at both ends but still do not have enough tension to support the weight of the door. Once a Kenmore dishwasher door spring is stretched out, it cannot be restored to its original condition. Unhook one end of the old spring from the adjustment hole. Unhook the other end from the door support and discard the spring. Insert one end of the replacement spring into the adjustment hole and the other end into the hook on the door support.
  5. Open and close the door a few times to make sure the spring is now working properly. The door should not bounce up and down or sag on the hinges when it is in the open position.
  6. Restore power to your Kenmore dishwasher by plugging it back in or turning on the switch at the home's circuit breaker panel.

My garage door wont open more than 6 inches with the door attached to the belt, but when I releasae the door load the belt works just fine. It worked fine for 6 months but now i have this problem....

YOU MAY HAVE A BROKEN SPRING

CHECK TO SEE HOW THE DOOR WORKS MANUALLY - DISCONNECTED FROM THE OPENER. IF YOU CAN'T LIFT IT EASILY THE SPRING MAY NEED TO BE ADJUSTED OR REPLACED.

IF IT LIFTS EASILY BY HAND THEN LUBE (WHITE LITHIUM OR WD-40) THE SPRINGS, HINGES AND OPENER RAIL - TRY IT AGAIN, IF IT STILL REVERSES ADJUST THE OPEN SENSITIVITY 1/8 TURN AT A TIME IF IT TAKES MORE THAN 3/4 OF THE ADJUSTMENT RANGE OR STILL DOESN'T WORK I WOULD HAVE IT LOOKED AT BY A PRO. SOME THINGS YOU CAN LOOK RIGHT AT AND NOT SEE.

HOPE THIS IS HELPFUL

Door will stop on the third panel then go back up .

What I'd do first is disconnect the opener and see how easy the door opens. You didn't indicate what type of springs you have on the door. You should be able to open and close the door by hand for the opener to operate it. If you have a torsion spring, and there is a problem with that it is not recommended for the homeowner to replace or adjust it. Extension springs are not as dangerous. If the springs are ok, and you feel a binding, lubricate the wheels and track. Once the door moves freely, re-connect the opener. IF it won't open it now you should be able to adjust the "force" for open and close. Just make it strong enough to do the job, so it will work if there is an obstruction. You can test this by putting a 2x4 under the door when finished, and it should open back up if it hits the 2x4, but not if it hits the floor.

Kitchen Aid Model KUDPQ1FLSS5 door counterbalance issue

One of the counter bakance springs OR the adjuster for it let go. I had a similar thing where the adjuster which was a thin metal "T" thing that screwed up into the spring as an adjuster folded and fell out of the spring.

Remove the bottom dress cover at the tope kick of the dishwasher. The springs are all accessable right there. The problem will be obvious. Just compare the two sides.

I had to beef up the "T" adjsuter in mine as it was too weak to continue holding in the spring.

One turns it into more or less coils of the spring to adjust the counterbalance.

My liftmaster garage door only opens 8 inches and then stops

It sounds like the opener is stopping because the weight of the door is tripping the lift sensor on the opener. There are two screws on the side of the opener to adjust the lift and close pressure. Find the lift pressure screw and ajust it higher to see if that remedies the problem.
Also, because you said the door will not stay open at the top when you open it manually, I think your springs are not adjusted correctly. They should hold the door open in the up position when not connected to the door opener. That may be the reason the opener lift pressure is kicking it out.
If you have to adjust the springs, be careful that you know what you are doing. There is a lot of potential for getting hurt if you don't know the proper proceedure.
Good luck.

2 possible problems.

1 might be your door springs need to be adjusted causing a more than normal load on the opener. Test this by disengaging the opener and open the door by hand. A properly balanced door should only require minimal effort. If you struggle to open it manually then the torsen springs need adjusted. Caution- they are under high torque and unless you have the knowledge and tools required don't attempt this yourself.

2 the open force needs to be adjusted on the opener. there are 4 adjustment screws located on the opener. Two are for travel distance-one for each direction. The other two are for force adjustment, one for each direction.
