Hello, Guest who?

Getting the lid off of your Kenmore is simple. Raise the lid. At the bottom on each side are a pair of screws that go through the lid and attach to a reinforcing bracket on the inside. Take these screws out, remove the bracket, do the same for the other side. A small bowl or ziplock will keep these small bits from getting away. When you have repainted or replaced the lid, insert the bracket with the loop down, and insert the screws from the outside through the lid.

Rust under lid and top of barrel. How do I open up the machine to remove rust and paint?

This assumes that you have a basic Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive, neutral drain (it doesn't spin until the pump removes most of the water) machine.

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:

Enter your model number (110.#######) and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts.

Also see the following for how to remove the cabinet.

Washing machine insert is rusting

You should contact Kenmore, most inner wash tubs came with a lifetime warranty, you would have to pay for the labor but they should cover the part. Good luck !

Rust on the lid

You will need to use steel wool to lightly scour off all rust, Then you should use an enamel paint or clear fingernail polish to repaint the area.

Roper topfill washer fills, washes but will not spin. Type: 107 Max.: RAX7245KQO Serial: CL 3617156

Did you check the lid switch? continuity would tell you, simply remove the two screws for the top (timer consol) phillips screws . then you will see a white plug on the cabinet disconnect it then shut the lid or stick a pen/ or something to activate lid switch stick your ohm meter in the 2 end holes, make sure you have no electricity and check with is the lid switch for your model

My 10 year old Kenmore (Whirlpool) top load washer is rusting under the top cover. The entire cover from the bleach dispenser all around is rusted under the lid. Periodically, rust dislodges into the tub and stains whites. You would have to treat the rust under the lid. I decided to try, using "Rust-mort" rust treatment on a rag. The rust would all have to be wetted with the rustmort after some scrubbing with a scuff pad. I have not attempted this yet.
I went to OSH and checked lids on new top load washers. The lip on the cheaper models was not properly coated with paint, and I could feel the rough partially exposed metal, which would rust. The more expensive models had a smooth well coated lip on the underside of the cover. Hope this helps.

Kenmore Washer Model 110.28974890

Yes you can. carries all the parts you need to replace the washer lid. Just type in the model number you provided and look under the "Top and Cabinet" heading for item number 19. Pay particular attention to the part numbers. There are two listed. One is for a WHITE (part #3952141) lid and the other is for an ALMOND (part #3952146) colored lid. I hope this helps you.

PS This was the cheapest site I could find the lid. If you still wish to do some comparative shopping, use the part numbers provided by the Sears website for your search.

Corroded lip

Need to know what you are referring to as the top. Do you mean the lid or the chassis top.

The actual top section is bolted from the inside.
