Question about Acer Aspire 3610 Notebook

Aspire 3610 fails to run for more than a few minutes

It is slow to start up. When it eventually gets to the welcome screen, it shuts down almost immediately most of the time. In a few attempts it seemed to be in regular operating mode, but suddenly shut down within 5 minutes of start-up. It stays running longer if it has been off for an hour or so, but for a maximum of about 5 minutes once XP has loaded. When in setup mode, it will stay on for hours.

Hi Jimbo60,
I recommend you to test step-by-step
1.First test that problem is from heat or fan problem by turning your NB on and maybe press key to enter BIOS setup or do something not to boot into windows and see that it can stay there forever or not ??
** incase it can stay on for half an hour to one our and shut itself down then you have problem with fan or heat flow.

2.incase you didn't have problem with heat then, it can be harddisk problem what I recommend to find some harddisk to test for that case or try to find some utility program that can boot up and test your harddrive.

My computer powers off on its own

When the CPU overheats then it will shut down (i.e. thermaloverload) and won't boot up again until it has cooled down. If this is theproblem is not fixed then the CPU will eventually fail.
A faulty fan causes the problem or the fan and heat sink assembly are cloggedwith dust.
Check the CPU fan to see if it spins freely, if not replace the fan.
If the fan and heat sink is clogged with dust the remove the dust and make surethe vents are clear and dust free. Use a can of compressed air to do this.

My acer aspire 5535, amd turion x2battery runs out faster than it used to

The battery starts a slow decline over months and years, eventually you will notice the time between charges gets less and less until you are down to minutes, this quite normal for these batteries. The average life span is one to three years for most batteries before replacement is required.

Why aspire 3610 is very slow ?there is no virus!

Try removing programmes you no longer use and running Speed Disk/Defrag.
What happens is the system gets clogged with un needed garbage. A good spring clean may help.
Hope that fixes your problem.

When playing audio the monitor shuts down after a few minutes but audio still plays

The power board is probably not putting out enough power to run both the screen and the audio at the same time.
It will eventually get worse and it will not stay on at all.
The power board capacitors are probably starting to fail and need to be replaced.
The capacitors look like small cans and if they start to fail, the tops will start to bulge up.

The laptop gets hot and runs slow

Two possible solutions to your problem are:

Buy a cooling pad to elevate and flow air around/through your laptop's base.

Use the laptop on a hard, flat surface, and elevate it slightly if possible.

How can i find out part numbers for acer aspire 3000/3610. I have a 3000 (broken screen) and a 3610 (dead) , can i swop the screen from my 3610 into my 3000?

The Acer 3000 series and 3610 series has different set of Parts, Hence Swapping the LCD screen may damage your other 3610 LCD also. Please try to get a replacement for Aspire 3000 LCD.

Thank you for using Fixya.

I would suggest you just plug it in and do not power on the laptop for a few hours. Then try. If it persists reboot into safe mode and disable hibernation then reboot

Start up and shut down

Extremely slow operation can be the sign of many issues. The first of them is the hard drive failing. (I suspect this as the most likely reason.) You should be able to run hard drive diagnostics from the F12 menu. If they fail, replace the HDD.

If the diags pass, then next thing I would look at is free space available. At a minimum, you should have 10% OF THE HARD DRIVE free for Windows to cache data. Dropping below 5% usually effect dramatic slow downs and below 2% can prevent internet access too.

Other possiblities include Virus/Spyware infection
