Howdy, there is a slide rail on the side that has to be connected to the correct spot and unfortunately there are a few incorrect ways that look good on assembly, but don't function well. I would never Recommend Removing The Guard All Together and using safety glasses religiously, because that would be irresponsible of me, but it is the most popular action in the professional building community. Replacing blade guard on a 1700W sliding mitre saw

There is an upper (fixed) blade guard and a lower (moving) blade guard which has the added complication of being connected to a linkage or mechanism to swivel the guard away from the workpiece as it approaches the cut.

Mostly careful inspection, once the blade has been removed, will show removal of the guards to be a faily intuitive process. It is inevitable some makes of saw will be more complex and in the absence of official detailed instructions, it will mean a process of removing clips and screws until the part falls off and then remembering what you did so you can put it back together with no parts left over.

How do you remove the blade on my toledo chop saw

Unplug the saw first. Then raise the guard and lower the blade onto a piece of wood to keep the blade from turning. Using a proper wrench, turn the nut in the direction the blade spins when cutting and remove the nut and blade.

How do u life up the saw sleeve (the thing u move to cut the wood) on my Kobalt 10-in 15-Amp Sliding Compound Laser Miter Saw

If your saw is completely intact, meaning no missing or damaged parts, the blade guard should rotate out of the way of cutting as the saw head is lowered to make a cut. You didn't give your model number but there should be a push rod or link plate from the pivot point on the base to the blade cover that pushes the guard out of the way as the head is pivotted downward. If you have the cutting head locked down to make sliding cuts the guard should be up and out of the way. If this isn't happening you may have broken or missing parts of the guard system.

Install spring on 345 guard

As you are looking at the blade side of the saw, the spring hooks through a hole at about three o'clock on the lower guard. It then wraps around the bottom of the guard clockwise and attaches to the upper guard. The hole on the upperguard should be somewhere around ten to twelve o'clock. Move the lower guard to check for binding and full return to the safe position.

Ryobi TS-254 blade guard does not retract when blade is lowered

Probably something jammed up inside the body of the saw where the guard retracts, like a chip of wood. I once had the same problem with my circular saw guard not retracting. Turned out there was a screw that had somehow gotten trapped in there and once that was removed, guard functions perfectly now. Definitely sort it out as soon as possible because this is very dangerous--you could make a cut, rest the saw on your leg and... earn a quick trip to the emergency room.

Need lower guard kit, seems to be obsolete everywhere.

Go to www.ereplacementparts.com. They have two SHD77M saws listed but both have a lower guard with part number 1619X01182 for $8.42 (+S&H of course) but a saw worth fixing.

Can't find my owners manual. How do I change the blade. Bolt hits on a guard that covers the arbor. On a DW713 combination saw.

Removing the Blade
1. Unplug the saw.
2. Raise the arm to the upper position and raise the lower guard as far as possible.
3. Loosen, but do not remove guard bracket screw until the bracket can be raised far
enough to access the blade screw. Lower guard will remain raised due to the position
of the guard bracket screw.
4. Depress the spindle lock button (Fig. 3) while carefully rotating the saw blade by hand
until the lock engages
5. Keeping the button depressed, use the other hand and
the wrench provided to loosen the blade screw. (Turn
clockwise, left-hand threads.)
6. Remove the blade screw, outer blade clamp, and
blade. The inner blade clamp may be left on the
spindle.
Installing a Blade
1. Unplug the saw.
2. With the arm raised, the lower guard held open and the
guard bracket, place the blade on the spindle against
the inner blade clamp with the teeth at the bottom of
the blade pointing toward the back of the saw.
3. Assemble the outer blade clamp onto the spindle.
4. Install the blade screw and, engaging the spindle lock,
tighten the screw firmly with wrench provided. (Turn
counterclockwise, left-hand threads.)
5. Return the guard bracket to its original position and
firmly tighten the guard bracket screw to hold bracket
in place.
WARNING:
• The guard bracket must be returned
to its original position and the
screw tightened before activating
the saw.
• Failure to do so may allow the guard
to contact the spinning saw blade
resulting in damage to the saw and
severe personal injury

I'm trying to figure out if I need to hold the lower blade guard up while the saw is running...there is no lock for it

No you do not need to holde the lower blade guard up. It should be spring loaded and move upward as it engages to piece being cut. depending on what you are cutting, you may need to hold it up to start the cut, but then it can be let back down while cutting. It is a safety feature designed to keep as much of the blade covered as possible during use.
