Question about Dell Photo 964 All-In-One InkJet Printer

2 Answers

Printer Busy I am using the Dell Photo All in One 926 Printer with Windows Vista (awful) and has been fine for over a year. I kept using cartridges well beyond time Dell said to replace (they were fine) but last week aborted a print and then had trouble installing new ones (the cartridges did not present 1/2 way along). Ever since this I have not been able to print; I have unistalled and reinstalled drivers (twice); cleared out(renamed) some 'w32x86' folders under 'spool' - as recommended by Dell tech support. Still no luck - cannot use locally for copying (no error messages just sits there) or print (message 'Printer Busy'). Help!

    Thanks for prompt feedback;

As I think it is a printer issue (rather than PC driver problem - because I have done re install twice now) I have tried to restore factory settings as recommended and then print a test page locally - no luck.

Can't see why but from your response sounds like bad news - do I really need to buy a new one?.

I was having the same problem trying to scan. Then I noticed that the Mode (on the printer - use the checkmark to scroll to it) was set to Copy. I changed it to Scan and all is well.

Hi,
As you have already worked with Tech support at Dell, they may have exploited all the options but do try the following steps and tell me if that worked
1. DIsconnect you printer from the computer

  1. Press the down arrow button until Maintenance is highlighted and press the Select button.

  2. Press the down arrow button until Reset Defaults is hightlighted and press the Select button.

  3. The printer displays a confirmation message. Highlight Yes and press the Select button
This would reset your printer to factory defaults.

2. Unistall the drivers using the following file
R166225 .zip from the link below
http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/format.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&deviceid=9913&libid=40&releaseid=R166225&vercnt=1&formatcnt=0&SystemID=PRN_PHT_964&servicetag=&os=WLH&osl=en&catid=-1&impid=-1
-> Save the file to desktop
->Double click to extract the file and see where the file is being extracted.
-> Go to extracted file folder ,right click on the file named setup and left click on run as adminstrator.
-> Follow on screen instructions and it would uinstall the printer

3. Restart your computer.
4. Install the drivers back on to the computer using the printer cd. Note :connect the printer only when prompted on the screen.

Once the printer has been installed , we need to update the printer aswell .

5. Download the printer firmware from the link below
http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&releaseid=R114639&SystemID=PRN_PHT_964&servicetag=&os=WLH&osl=en&deviceid=9913&devlib=0&typecnt=0&vercnt=2&catid=-1&impid=-1&formatcnt=1&libid=40&fileid=151153

6. Follow on screen instructions to install the same
7. Check if the printer works after this , otherwise its time for a new one.

Thanks
Mandeep

Do let me know , if the information above was of any help. by rating me for the same.

As requested in the earlier post,
    > try resetting the printer first and update the firmware.
    > Do let me know if you are able to print locally if the print is not successful , i hate to say this but you would have to get yourself a new one.

    Thanks

From the online manual...

1. Turn on your printer.

2.Lift the printer unit, and then position the scanner support between the tabs to hold it open.

3.The ink cartridge carrier moves and stops at the loading position unless the printer is busy.

4.Press down on the ink cartridge lever to raise each ink cartridge lid.

5.Remove the old ink cartridges.

6.Store the cartridges in an air-tight container, such as the storage unit you received with your photo cartridge, or dispose of them properly.

9. Snap each lid closed.

10. Hold the printer unit up, push the scanner support back to unlock it, and then lower the printer unit until it is completely closed.

Dell Photo 926 printer will not print with the black ink and tells me that the cartridge is incompatible even though there is ink in the cartridge and i got it from dell

Do you have a '926' or a '962' printer? You've cited each number in your problem description.

Remove the ink cartridge.
Turn the printer off.
Turn the printer on.
Reinsert the ink cartridge.

If the problem persists, contact Dell, and get them to replace it.
