Question about GE Security Simon 3 Wireless Home Security System

1 Answer

I have a GE home security system. Last week there was a power surge due to a blown transformer in the neighborhood. A few hours afterward the systems siren sounded & would not turn off. So we disconnected it. The next day the key pads started beeping loudly. We are were able to turn them off by hitting the cancel button only to have them come back on within 5 minutes. The power comes and goes on the key pads during all of this. Any suggestions? Would unplugging and replugging in the seystems power transformer up in the attic be advisable?

It might not hurt to try the "Microsoft Solution" and reboot the system. First disconnect the AC power then disconnect the battery. Wait 1 minute then reconnect the battery and reconnect the AC power.See ifyou can arm and disarm the system. Then reconnect the siren and try again to arm and disarm the panel. If the keypads beep it can usually give you an error code that will help you pinpoint the problem.

Low battery and Phone communication failure

Check that you are not using an app that is continuously accessing the internet and communicating with a server for some reason that is using the phones WiFi or mobile channel. This will drain battery life if incorrectly configured etc ( i.e selecting access to your location, services and other info )

I have accidentally switched the ac power cord while my philips fwp900 was on and now wont turn on again how do i fix this?

Please remove the power and keep aside for few hours if you do not have instructions to reset the processor in the manual- please refer to troubleshooting processor.
If not the processor will reset by itselt if keep out of power, remove power plug and press the front panel to remove all voltage from the panel and it will reset if there are no issues on the power supply.

I recently installed a GE Simon XT wireless security system. It worked fine upon initial installation. However, I decided to relocate the panel. At the new location I had to extend the transformer lead to...

Check the outlet to ensure it :1- has power , 2- is not a switched outlet. Check your wire connections to ensure they are secure. If all of the above are good, the transformer may have shorted when disconnecting. Use a voltage meter on the transformer terminals and the AC scale, check the output of the transformer.

I have a GE Simon Security System with a GE Simon 3- X10 Line Carrier Transformer that powers a siren. Since the X10 transformer was installed, I constantly get sensor 'failures.' Although the panel...

X10 is a signal format transmitted over the power lines, there is no special X10 wiring in the house as such. The siren and your outside lights are X10 receivers which are sent a signal from the X10 transformer connected to the alarm panel. The alarm panel sends the codes which are transmitted as X10 to the X10 external devices. Most houses now days have at least two 120 volt feeds coming into the main power panel, this provides the 240 volt required for electric stoves and dryers. Because of the two separate feeds split at the panel, the 60 cycles is usually out of phase with each other. To get X10 to work and stay in phase on each side of the panel you need to have wired a passive coupler across both 120 volt inputs. This coupler keeps both 120 inputs in phase with each other and provides a clear X10 transmit across the house wiring.

GE Simon 3 low battery warning: Newer battery has 6.54V?

Read the battery voltage with the system on but with the ac power disconnected. I always suspect the battery from experience. Battery needs to be replaced every few years normally(but can vary).

Simon 3 "System Low Battery" after 3 years use

I install these panels.  For the low battery message to clear you need to power the system down completely.  To do this you need to unplug the battery and also unplug the transformer plugged into an electrical outlet.  When you power the system back up, you need to first plug in the battery leads.  Then the transformer.
