Ex . i can w/ another radio ,recieve a good carrier from someone.like a 7 w/ a 2 noise level.w/ my radio , i recieve a 2 noise level w/ a 3 1/2 carrier. note; the radio was modified when i purchased it.i sometimes can not hear someone because of this ,when i should?
This is for the 148F the F is for frec. counter , and it is a mobile. It has upper & lowers as well as the side band. It has low receive, and the channels my not be stable. I cannot find info on it. I have not opened it up yet wanted to know where to start FIRST. I have modifacation, info. but NO info on the 148F, much less with the Xtra channel KIT firstname.lastname@example.org
IN your CB there are 25 tuneing slugs (square matal cans with
ferrite tuneing slugs) if you speaker output is low leavel but still
clear and free of hash the set should be ok , but you will need to tune these slugs with a small jewlers screw driver (WITH GREAT CARE) as the slugs break easy. If you want to email me it will not be a problem ,cheers , DENNIS FLYINGFOX@PEOPLE.NET.AU

Are you stating the volume is not loud enough when someone talks or just idling. If if has a squelch knob turn it til it makes a hissing noise or rushing noise. then back to where the noise just quits. This is the proper setting. Then when someone talks increase volume to listening level you choose. If this does not work take them back and get your money back.
When you see the Rx sign on the screen, it indicates that someone else is transmitting (Tx) on the channel, this is also caused by "BOOF HEADS" who like doing nothing more than dropping carriers by holding down their PTT button during a conversation, something that happens a lot on CB and without a doubt on FRS radios.
There is no problem in your radio, it's Just someone else probably dropping a carrier as per above.
Not much can be done about this problem, No License, No Joy.
The fact you can hear the other person over the screach indicates to me that I am right, and your radio is fine.
Good morning! It's common to hear a loud thumping noise during spinning because the load (clothes) are not properly place in the tub. Please try to put the load in order & compress it down. best regards.
Mounted on the circuit board is a tiny black encased rx/tx
changeover relay. It is almost in the center of the board and one third to the left (facing the controls) and may be etched MRATA.
I would be looking at that. These sets are subject to a lot of problems as they age and can be fixed with a BIG HAMMER!!
Check the squelch on your radio thats not recieving. If there is a monitor button ( when pushed you will hear static) try pushing it.. then get someone to call you so you can check if you can hear them.
On these radios you have 2 types of squelch....1 is called carrier squelch.... it basically opens when there is a strong enough signal. This lets you only hear strong signals and "squelch out" the distant ones and background static.
The2nd. is "tone squelch" ... with your radio they are often called privacy tones. If you have 2 radios set with the same privacy tones you will only be able to hear each other... only radios that are transmitting with that privacy tone will be heard on your radio. Its a high frequency tone that can't be hear by the human ear that gets "embeded" with the transmitting signal. The recieving radio hears it and opens the squelch.
So... if the radio thats rxing (recieving)your signal has its squelch set for just carrier squelch it will hear any signal thats strong enough to break the squech open.... basicaly any radio within a certain range. But if your radio (one with problem) has its squelch set for privacy tones you will not hear any other radios except the ones set with the same privacy tone.... the squelch will not open until it gets a tx signal with the right tone.... so if the txing (transmitting) radio is not using tone squelch but is using carrier squelch.... and the rxing radio is set for tone squelch... the rxing radio will not hear it.
With tone (privacy tones/codes) squelch you need a tone to open the squelch and then the audio can be heard... with carrier squelch the squelch will open if ANY radio is within a certain range.
Check the squelch setting on the problem radio... it could have a privacy tone set. Try pushing in the monitor button so you can hear static ( you want to hear everything including static) on both radios... tx on one radio at a time and listen if it can be heard on the other with the monitor button pushed.
If you can't hear any audio when the broken one is transmitting then it COULD be the mic.... if you can hear both radios with the monitor button activated than the radios are txing and have tx audio and are working... if thats the case its the privacy tones that are the problem.
the lack of receiver sensitivity may denote a problem with the RF input amplifier or the IF stages. before attempting to boost the incoming signal I would first want you to check the RF and IF receiver functions first. If there is a problem it would be more advantagous to fix it first. You will need the following equipment
1)schematic (To locate components and test points)
2)digital multimeter (to measure voltages and test points)
3)Radio Frequency (RF) Generator (to provide test and reference signals)
4)IF demodulator probe (to test for proper IF signal amplification along the IF stages)
5)Oscilloscope (To see if audio is being properly reproduced at the audio detector stage)
6) SWR meter(to test the standing wave ratio between (along the coaxial cable path) the antenna and the CB unit.
7)Antenna Dummy load (to emulate the antenna, under FCC law you can not transmitt into the air while testing and repair any transmitter or transceiver).
I hope this provides insight into what you will need to work on this problem.

I have seen some problems with new out of box radios, one of them is out of frequency and recieve with noise and works with low range coverage.
I can not clarify what you mean with feed back, check if you set in low volume if the radio works fine.
That will tell you that the speaker or the Synth circuitry has a problem.
