Can open to msn but cannot open email??


I had exactly the same problem, but I also noticed that links weren't opening in Outlook express or last.fm. I followed the following guide and this sorted the problem. Hope it helps you out too:

To make web pages open again when you click links in emails:

* Make sure neither Outlook Express nor Internet Explorer are open.
* Select Control Panel from the Start menu.
* Click Internet Options.
o If you do not see Internet Options right away, click Network and Internet Connections before.
* Go to the Programs tab.
* Make sure Internet Explorer should check to see whether it is the default browser is checked.
* Click OK.
* Close Internet Explorer.
* Re-open Internet Explorer.
* Click Yes when asked Internet Explorer asks "Internet Explorer is not currently your default browser. Would you like to make it your default browser?"
o If Internet Explorer does not ask:
o Close Internet Explorer
o Select My Computer from the Start menu.
o Choose Tools ' Folder Options... from the menu.
o Go to the File Types tab.
o Highlight (NONE) URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol.
o Click Advanced.
o Highlight open.
o Click Remove.
o Click Yes.
o Click OK.
o Now click Close.
o Start Internet Explorer.
* If you use a browser other than Internet Explorer, start it and make sure it is the new default.

The above does not work? Try this:

* Now select Run... from the Start menu.
* Type "iexplore /rereg".

* Repeat the Start ' Run... procedure with the following commands in this order, maybe checking after each for returning function:

Anyways, try to reset the Internet Explorer Settings to resolve the problem.

To use the Reset Internet Explorer Settings feature from Control Panel, follow these steps:
  1. Exit all programs, including Internet Explorer (if it is running).
  2. If you use Windows XP, click Start, and then click Run. Type the following command in the Open box, and then press ENTER: inetcpl.cpl If you use Windows Vista, click Start. Type the following command in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER: inetcpl.cpl The Internet Options dialog box appears. Click the Advanced tab. IE8 can sometimes act this way. _Uninstal it through the add/remove programs from the control panel.
Reinstal it only if you want to. I don't use it.

For Internet Explorer:

When you reset Internet Explorer settings, all add-ons and customizations are deleted, and you basically start with a fresh version of Internet Explorer.

To use the Reset Internet Explorer Settings feature from Control Panel, follow these steps:

If you use Windows XP, click Start, and then click Run.

Type the following command in the Open box, and then press ENTER: inetcpl.cpl

The Internet Options dialog box appears.

Click the Advanced tab.

My son did a "system recovery" on my lap top.. Now i cant locate the internet. i found all my files on a back up file but not sure how to get them back.. can someone help me?


when you say "i can't locate internet" I'm assuming you don't know where the executable icon for internet explorer is, so the following is what you can do to put it back on your desktop or put it back in the start menu.

first of all make sure internet explorer is avaliable/enable/installed in your computer by going to control panel>add remove programs>add remove windows components and check internet explorer if it's uncheck. then try the following if needed:

go to start>my computer>local disk c: (or the system drive letter you have on your system) > program files>Internet explorer and in that folder look for iexplore.exe and right click on it and send it to the desktop as a shortcut or pin it the the start menu.

you can also put it on your start menu by right clicking an empty space on your taskbar (bar wher the start button is .. the blue area), go to properties, go to start menu tab, click customize and put a check mark next to internet and select internet explorer.
