If it is your first time using your printer, then you need to install the driver for it to work.
If you have used your printer without any problem before then, there are two possible reasons why your printer/scanner is having that issue:
1. Connection error 2. Driver problem
First thing's first. Restart your computer and your printer. there are times that computers and printers just need a restart for it to work. Yes, it's strange but it's how things work with machines. They need rebooting to work smoothly.
If rebooting your computer and printer won't fix the problem. Here are the things that you can do.
1. Connection error: . a. Turn off your printer and turn it back on. Try scanning, if no go.. proceed to step b.
b. Unplug your printer from your computer and unplug it's power cord and press and hold the printer's power button to 5-8 seconds to completely drain the power. Plug it back in to the wall outlet leaving the connection between your computer and the printer still unplugged. wait until your printer completely turns on. Plug it to your computer and do the scanning process.
If all steps above don't work, then you need to check the driver.
Uinstall the driver of your computer by going to the control panel. After uinstalling it, then reinstall it by using the dvd that came with your printer. Follow the on-screen instructions and try scanning. It should work.
Try restating your computer, uninstall the printer software, restart your computer, install printer software again, and restart computer again. (leave the printer off during this process unless told otherwise by the on-screen instructions).
If the above doesn't work, then it could be a hardware issue with the scanner. Try scanning a document to your computer and see if that works. If it doesn't, then your device probably needs a hardware repair...hopefully something is just loose in there.
if you have installed the full feature software of the printer on your computer then you would find HP solution center on the desktop screen. double click on it and then Solution center opens up.. then click on scan document and follow the on screen process it will scan..
open the front cover on the printer , u should see a glass , place the document/picture , that u r lookin to scan face down , then , make sure the little display on the printer says : scan mode or should have scan button .
hit the start or the scan button to start the process ., (ensure u hav the correct printer drivers installed on ur computer ..
There is something on your scanner glass. Clean the glass with glass cleaner. If this happens when using the automatic document feeder, open the top side cover where the paper feeds into. There is a narrow glass strip there. Clean that as well.
If this fails, the scanner head has a bad sector on the CCD and will need to be replaced. You will probably find that it will be cheaper to replace the printer entirely if that is the case.
Read the Manual (comes with Tool). If you don't have the Tool download it from the Canon site. Go to the copier and press the System/Options button next to Copy/Mailbox/Fax. Press Online. Then try scanning. Go back to copier and press Offline so can photocopy again.
The best way to scan images to save on your computer is touse the scanner software on the computer. Not the scan function on the scanner. You don't say what type of scanner and software you have but usually scannersoftware works this way: 1) Place photo on scanner 2) Open scanner software 3) Using the software, Initiate scan 4) Name the Scanned item and save it to your desired location/folder Note: some applications will automatically save to --My Documents--My Pictures 5) Repeat process for each pic to be scanned.
