Power problem I have an e machines desktop computer. When I press the circular button on the front of the tower, nothing happens. It is like the power is dead. I tried switching out the power cord, but that did not solve the problem.

Look for a switch on the back of the computer by the power supply it must be in the I position not the O . if that will not work then the motherboard my be damaged or the power supply itself not the cord for it is very rare for a power cord to polarize any more. last the power button itself may be damaged but in al my years I have not found a bad power button yet. Always it has been the motherboard or the power supply.

the sound you are hearing or heard could have been power surging through a powersupply unit that just blew.. hopfully it did not effect any of the other hardware..to trouble shoot this you can do one of two things..1 disconnect the 20/24 pin powerconnector from the motherboard 2 disconnect the cpu power connector 3 disconnect the 6pin power connector from the graphics card if there is one some machines have onboard video chipsets if thats the case then no worries 4 disconnect the Harddrive power 5 jump the power supply to see if you get any power from it any questions on that go to youtube and type in how to jump a power supply... or option 2 is buy a new power supply make sure its 80plus certified and replace it...i know its a lot of work but i hope this has helped you

Hello, Last night I shut down my Dell E510 desktop - the proper way - by going to the start menu, shut down, turn power off. Then, today, I pressed the power button on the front of my tower and...

This sounds like a definite power issue. This means that the problem could range from being as simple as the power button itself not working/disconnected to the power supply being dead.

Things to try:

1. Have the side of your computer open and press the power button. Notice if any fans start to move or anything that happens.

2. Do you notice the Hard drive light flashing at all when turning on?

3. Has anyone else been using or been close in proximity to the computer that could have bumped it, causing something to come loose?

4. ONLY if you feel competent enough, check the cable connections inside the computer. Make sure to disconnect from the wall for 30 seconds and reconnect before touching any cables inside. Leaving the cable connected allows the computer case itself to act as a ground to prevent static shock.

Good luck!

Press and HOLD the ON/OFF button for TEN seconds, until the computer turns itself off.
Then, press the ON/OFF button as per normal, and it should start.

The problem is due loose memory sticks or mismatched memory sticks.

I had this happen to my emachines T1842 about a year ago. I replaced the power supply and it worked fine. It was about 25 bucks but fixed my problem. Make sure the red switch on the back hasnt been messed with. it should be on 115. If you have moved it, it may have blown a fuse inside the power supply.

This sounds like a power supply went bad. Did you either have a power surge or did someone shut down the computer by pulling out the plug?
