The fan comes on and off depending how how the cpu heatsink gets...it's job is to keep it cool enough to run without being damaged by the heat. There is no setting to make it run continually, however, one can buy a $7 small external fan at Walmart and hook it up to blow on the cpu vents in the laptop. The fan will help the cpu stay cooler, and keep the fan from running as much. I used to take my laptop on the road, and that's the way I kept it cool in warm weather, when I played DVDs (which really heats up the cpu and works it hard). The only thing you can do is to keep the vents and fan of the laptop as clean as you can (usually spraying them with compressed air in the vents works well).
It's normal for the fan to turn on, and turn off at times, don't worry too much about that- it's when the fan runs all the time that you're having dust and lint and dirt problems, and need to clean the fan and vents.
Good luck, thanks for using FixYa, and please rate this answer if it helped you.

The Fan on your laptop is automatic. It starts when your laptop gets warm and turns off when the temperature is lowered. I dont think it needs fixing of any sort.

Computer switching off

If you brought the machine to me, the very first thing I'd is open the case and look inside. The most common cause of system shutdown is overheating, either due to fan failure or a dirty machine. Dirt is the enemy of the PC> If there is a failed CPU fan, or the CPU heat sink is totally clogged with dirt, then I would recommend getting a can of dust remover (canned air) at your local big box store and clean out the PC, then try again. Do not remove the CPU heat sink to clean it unless you have replacement thermal paste to reinstall it! You can usually clean it sufficiently wit the canned air.

The above as over heated and seems to fail after about ten minutes of being on this is an intergrated card can it be fixed without replacing the motherboard it is in an asus laptop.

I suspect that your cooling fan has stopped working or the sealing mating between the fan surface and the CPU is not intact. These fans quit working because dirt and grime gets into the fan shaft and friction slows the fan . also if the fan gets accidentaly moved on the CPU, then this breaks the heat transfer tape between the CPU. This over heating causes the CPU to fail. Open the machine and observe if the fan is running correctly.

Overheating, sometimes i see the fan go on and off is it normal?

Under load the fan will kick in and stop as the temperature gets hot. This is normal.
If it is doing this on a reguar basis, you can do the following

1.) Download a copy of a hardware monitoring tool (everest is good) as a trial, note the indicated temperatures that appear on the toolbar, up to 60 degrees is ok under load, after that, you have an overheating problem.

2.) Either take the laptop to a shop and get it cleaned out (dust and dirt accumulate in the fan and coooling matrix), or try this yourself. You can try vacuuming the intake and outlet ports for the fan, but this is not the best solution.

3.) Obtain a USB cooling pad, these are ludicrously cheap on the lies of ebay at less than £4.00 delivered from some suppliers and reduce operating temperatures by 15-20 degrees if placed correctly

Thanks for assisting me. I cleaned the memory sticks. That did not help. However, I unplugged the 4 pin Power Supply connector to the mother board and started the computer. It works. The fan spins...

Hi!
From what you mentioned, there is a short in the motherboard and or one of the fans are overheating causing the system to shuts off.

You can check which fans is overheating and needs to be replaced. Disconnect all your fans (exhaust, blower) including the fan of the processor. One by one connect the fan and restart the system, until you find which one causing it.

If you can manage to open the bottom cover, clean the fan blower or replace.

Yeah me too...

The overheating problem will cause the CPU to shutdown and it won't boot up again until it has cooled dowm.
The problem could be a faulty fan that has stopped spinning and or the fan and heatsink assembly is clogged with dust.
To fix the problem, remove and vacuum the dust from the fan and heatsink assembly, check the fan and if it does not spin freely, replace the fan.

My comp is missing the startup files and i am missing bigfix programs how do i get the setup cds or dvds for the emachine i have now?

If system restore does not fix your computer, then you have hardware problems (overheating, faulty memory or CPU, or some other component). Start by looking at those possibilities.

Computer turn itself off

Hello babydluv06

If U look in the control panel - power options, U will see options that may be confussed with turning off. If after reading these options the pc is actually turning off, then look into a overheating problem. The pc BIOS has settings to shut down the pc if the temp exceeds a preset point. If this is the problem, then

Shut the pc off and unplug.
Open the case and vacuum out the dirt and MB. Be sure to blow or **** the dirt out of the cpu fan. Use plastic nozzle and be careful not to displace and connections. While U are there, gently push connectors together to make sure they have not come loose.
Plug your pc in and insure that all the fans work.
Unplug and reassemble the case.

Plug in and try.

Good Luck

Inner fan

inner fan is working all the time in order to cool off the electronic units, but you may wanna try checking for overheating. this can resault of: - air hole too close to the wall, or jammed by something. - working enviroment is too hot. room temperature and so. - dust and dirt accumulated on the fan, or heatsinc. you can clean it with a vacum cleaner or compressed air.
