Question about Sony RDR-VXD655 Recorder

Open Question

I setup my Sony RDR-vxd655 recorder and by mistake hit command mode DVD2 because I have a Sony dvd recorder that's already set to DVD3. So now I'm unable to do a reset, the remote won't allow me to go to system menu to make the change to the default. I unplugged it for hours hoping it would go back to the default but it didn't work. I played around with the buttons and somehow was able to get to the setup "not sure even what buttons I hit" and was able to go to systems menu and change it to DVD3 factory default but when I was reached the next screen and it asked to do the "Start " the remote would not work? I unplugged it for the night and I'm not sure if it will work when I get home. So is their anything I can do to get my remote to work with this recorder, what specific buttons do I need to hit? Help

1. Switch on recorder and point its own remote at it
2. System-Menu -> Setup -> Options -> Command-Mode
3. Select DVD3

SOURCE: Command mode change disabled remote

According to Sony, if you turn the power on and hold the Enter key and the #1 key down together for at least 3 seconds, everything will default back to factory settings.

Hi I have a sony dvd recorder gx360 that will not work with my remote. When try, it displays dvd 2 on front of the panel. I think its locked, how do I unlock it?

You have got the wrong remote code!
I have copied this from the manual....

Set the command mode for the remote so it matches the command mode for the recorder you set above. Follow the steps below to set the command mode on the remote. A Hold down ENTER. B While holding down ENTER, enter the command mode code number using the number buttons. Command Mode DVD1 - number button 1 DVD2 - number button 2 DVD3 - number button 3 C Hold down both the number buttons and ENTER at the same time for more than three seconds.

The correct "default" for the remote is DVD3!

I can't return to command mode dvd3 (default) from dvd1. Now my remote is useless and I can't find a way to bring up the main menu so I can get back into command mode dvd3.

Hi,
Slide remote lower cover and look for DVD Command mode set switch, set it to DVD-3 position, your RDR-VX530 will accept remote commands.
Thanks.

Here's a copy of it (pg 23):

Set the command mode for the remote so it matches
the command mode for the recorder you set above.
1 Hold down ENTER
2 While holding down ENTER, enter the
command mode code number using the
number buttons.
Command Mode Code number
DVD1 number button 1
DVD2 number button 2
DVD3 number button 3
3 Hold down both the number buttons and
ENTER at the same time for more than 3
seconds.
4 Let up, press RETURN, all done!

Remote & recorder RDR-VXD655 have different DVD command #'s.

Follow-up to the person who quoted from page 29 of the manual: Not sure if this will work w/the particular remote you have, but for the remote that ships w/RDR-VXD655 you can change the command mode in which it is operating by holding the Enter key on the remote and pressing the respective digit appearing in the LCD. In your case that means while holding the Enter key, press 1.

Can not get my sony dvd to get off of dvd1 and it is now locked u

Go to your DVR and manually turn the DVR off. Press the STOP button for
two or three seconds. The DVR COMMAND MODE setting will display in the
DVR window. (DVD1, DVD2 or DVD3)

Set the remote to the COMMAND MODE setting that was diaplayed by depressing
both the remote ENTER key and the desired number key (1, 2 or 3) and holding
them both at the same time for 3 seconds.

You can now use the remote to set the DVR to the desired COMMAND MODE.
To do this depress SYSTEM MENU on the remote and go to SETTINGS and then
COMMAND MODE. Select either DVD1, DVD2 or DVD3. Once you delect a setting
that is different from what was set, your remote will stop working again.

Reset your remote to the desired COMMAND MODE by depressing the remote ENTER
key and the desired number key (1, 2 or 3) and holding them both at the same
time for 3 seconds. The remote should now control the DVR.
