Hp pavilion dv9720us upgrades

I bought this pc to play games, but my game of choice is crysis. Yeah, I already know about laptops and upgrades. I was just wondering if their is anything i can do to improve my graphics card and processor. From my knowledge with this machine, it will play crysis, but barely. I've maxed everything that the pc will let me. got 4 gigs of ram, deleted everything off hard drive that i dont need, and it seems its bottlenecked at graphics card. Cant do anything in bios either, typical hp, locked tighter than a virgin on prom night. Hate to get rid of this pc, really like it but if there is no hope in improving performance, or upgrading the hardware, its useless to me.

You need to increase the amount of system memory allowed to be used by the graphics processor. By default it is set at 64mb. Set it to at least 128mb to get shaders and what not working properly. The setting is in the bios. press F10 when the screen comes to life upon start up. Just because you let it use more memory doesn't mean it will always use that much. It should automatically throttle back when you are not running games. Using less of the system memory.

NEVER overclock a notebook. Especially this particular notebook. There have been issues related to heat on this notebook that you have. Those issues are board failure, screen hing melting and cracking, heat sink warping causing processor failure.. (do a google on hp hindge crack and you will see)

I would turn off all of the vista eye candy. It steals a lot of performance out of other programs. Turn areo glass off.

Running a 200mbps broadband connection, but the pc is running a 7150m nvidia graphics card and the window experience index rates the card at 3 turned all out, windows aero is a 3.4 set to performance, and to my best of know how both are maxed out as far as this machine will let me. everything else is about or over 5. Even got resolution turned down a notch. everything is lock down by hp in bios and i praying that maybe hp used a higher graphics card on this board, or a board that was simular enough to use. Or maybe a program that could get inside to overclock the gpu a tiny bit (the usuals dont work i've done tried ) But if not looking into the gateway http://www.gateway.com/systems/product/529668033.php

running the 4 g ram
vista 64 bit?

This is the spec on your machine:

Dual core/64-bit processing: The 2GHz Turion 64 X2 TL-60 has two processing engines that work in tandem, providing much more power than standard 2GHz processors. This processor is also capable of processing 64 bits of information at once, twice as much as standard 32-bit processors.
* This laptop features 2GB of DDR2 system memory, which you upgraded to 4 gig.
this is from the Crysis web forums:
Q: Well, can you give us ANYTHING with specs?
A: This is unofficial speculation, but with a 7800/x1800 or better you'll really be enjoying Crysis as it'll look fantastic. Slower cards will run the game as well, but you'll be turning something off.
Update: Cevat Yerli, CEO of Crytek, has recommended an Intel Core 2 Duo e6600 processor and an Nvidia Geforce 8800 and at least 2GB of RAM to get the best experience out of Crysis.

It may be that you choose an amd machine over an intel there are differences hardware concerned, in these two processor types, I don't think the processors are your problem, it has far more processing power than you need even for this game. the video card seems to be good as well plenty there to run and with vista you should be getting the dx 10 advantage. so have you looked at your isp speed? there could b a bottleneck in that and not your machine.

When im playing games such as callofduty on my computer vindictus or heroes of newerth on my Hp Pavilion dv7-3160us it seems to freeze in about 2minutes into the game the screen stays normal but nothing...

Your laptop is under power to run these games. The only solution to this is, either upgrading few of the component, Since this is a laptop, I doubt you can upgrade the video card, and you may need to find a higher performace laptop or a desktop to run the games. Remember game min. recommemation is only for a desktop, and with laptop even with some of the same spec, laptop hardware underperform with desktop hardware always!

Unfortunately you have a notebook not a gaming PC so there isn't much you can do. Go into bios and if it will let you increase the shared video memory. When loading the game go into it's settings and turn all the extra video features off. Intel tend not to make the best gaming video chips and I don't know of any laptops that are upgradeable.
Your laptop should be fine for all applications and multimedia except games. I prefer to game on a ATX size PC so i can upgrade and change things, but would recommend you get PS3 or xbox if the notebook doesn't kick it for you.

HP dv9720us issues

The graphics can not be upgraded on this laptop. You can boost the capabilities by giving it more memory in the bios and running the latest nvidia drivers.

The fan is something you should not ignore. Get it replaced if it has any noise that isn't normal. You can not fix these fans with cleaning. Vibration is usually a bad barring or melted barring mount. Failure to fix it will permanently destroy the laptop and kill the lithium battery pack.

Sound card

I was unable to locate appropriate drivers for either of the sound systems on that model from the HP website, but you should be able to get them through the Windows Update site. Just make sure you choose the Custom button (Express only looks for critical updates) and check the drivers section to see what is available for you. I know for sure the RealTek drivers are there and I would assume that the Conexant drivers are as well, so you should be covered no matter which specific hardware configuration you have.

What can I safely upgrade to for gaming

0Hi there,

The Pavillion dv4t comes with a choice of specs to meet your needs. As you haven't listed them I will list the Minimum that you will need to run the games, that way, you can check them against what you have and decide if you need to upgrade.

I will list for Sims 3. Even with the basic dv4t you will not need to upgrade to play Sims 2.

Sims 3

Running Vista SP1

CPU (processor speed) - 2.4 Ghz Pentium 4 or Athlon 2400+
RAM (memory) - 2 GB
Video Card (graphics) - 128 MB (Nvidia GeForce Go 6200, ATI Radeon Mobile 9600, or equivalent)
Hard Drive (space for installation) - 6.5 GB and an extra 1.5 GB for custom content.

These are the minimum specs for running on a laptop.

Hope that helps

Tim

Sound

Sounds to me like you are missing the drivers for the soundcard...the drivers are basiclly the software thatallows your computer to communicate with the hardware (in this case the soundcard).

What you can do is download the drivers and install them , which should get you your sound back!

You can download them here:

Playing super nintendo roms on my pc

Simply extract them (using Winzip or Winrar) to a folder and location of your choice and run the setup first to install the games. After installing run the game through the icon it will create on your desktop.

Hope this helps.
If it does, please vote. Thanks!
