Question about Washing Machines

2 Answers

I have a Kenmore 110 20692 000 washing machine. Last week it stopped working, and wouldn't spin. It would go to that part of the cycle, but made a kind of grinding noise. I asked on fixya what the problem could be and was told it was probably a coupler. I followed the instructions to take it apart and found the coupler and sure enough, it was broken. I replaced it, but noticed that the oscillator would turn one way, but still locked when I tried to turn it the other way (the person from fixya said this was caused by a locking in the coupler mechanism before I fixed the coupler). I ran a test cycle and it filled with water, did the oscillating, but when it was going to go to spin, it just shuts down and doesn't even attempt it - I don't even get to where it was grinding before. Now I can't even turn it ahead in the cycle and drain the water - it's like everything past the first step is no longer working. Could this be another problem that started when the coupler went or is this a problem caused by my repairs? Any help would be appreciated!

would a bad lid switch also cause this? Mine wasn't working before, but was jimmied into a closed position. However, when taking off the cabinet I think it did get jostled. Could this be the culprit or are these two different symptoms?

    Hi,

I actually think it was just the lid switch. It has been a problem in the past, and was kind of juryrigged to keep working, but when i removed the cabinet it got jostled a bit. I have pulled it apart and bypassed it by connecting the wires, and am doing a test cycle now. So far, I have spinning.

Hello. Chances are likely that the coupler broke when the transmission froze up. Now your choice is to replace the transmission or replace this machine all together. IF the machine is over 3 years old, I strongly recommend replacing it. J.

Normally that motor turns one direction for wash, and another direction for spin. Suggest you undo the coupling again and run the motor firstly in a wash mode. If all is well, forward dial to spin mode then watch if motor changes direction. If it doesnt, very possibly the timer is faulty. If it does change to the spin direction then your gearbox has a problem. Once the reverse direction comes into play, it is supposed to activate a series of gears in the gearbox which will engage the large drum into a spin direction. If there is a loud grinding noise then possibly a gearbox issue. email address is terfou@imaginet.co.za

Kenmore washing machine didn't spin @ end of cycle

If you tried a different cycle and it worked this means that the timer is probably bad on the main cycle that you use. If the machine does not spin on all cycles, then please check out the LID SWITCH.

Kenmore HE2 Plus Front Washer knocks very loud on spin cycle and a belt or something has been coming out in pieces for the last few weeks

I just took the back off my older kenmore front loader and discovered that the concrete counter weight had come off the drum and fallen to the bottom of the machine. Reattached it and knocking has stopped, lucky it didn't trash the machine as it is normally attached to the top of the drum.

Kenmore 80 Series - machine won't rinse or spin

Manually move the timer to the SPIN mode and turn it on.
If nothing happens, replace the lid switch.
With a model number I could be more specific.

Kenmore 70 series - not draining

On your console there is two side panels that pop off from the top and two screws to remove and then swing the console back. You will notice a molex plug going into the washer on the right hane side. Unplug the machine and the top portion of that plug. Get a meter for continuity and if it beeps with a open lid or not when closed I would replace the switch.

Bosch classixx 1000 washing machine - stops on spin

Washing machine stops at the spin cycle - light flashes. Have to drain water out manually. Happened last week and was then able to run an empty rinse cycle. Machine worked normally for another week. Same problem today but have had to drain water manually from the drum after trying an empty 90 wash and rinse cycle (both stopped on the Spin and flashed). Any ideas? Thanks. x
