Question about Harman Kardon Audio Players & Recorders
It probably the capasitors in the power supply that gives you problem. Check if the top of the caps has a popped top, not flat like it should be.

Possible that the microprocessor stage is not working and is not conveying any display to the unit.
remove the cover and check the 5Volt rail to the mP section. If the voltage is absent check on the 5 volt regulator.
If present and there is no life, then check for oscillatiion of the crystal, might need a CRO to confirm if the mP is working or the clocck signals are present, if data tranfer is present. If not mP is faulty.Take help to confirm and find a source, might be approach Harman Kardon.
