Mine was also completely dead, with the reset doing nothing! I held the vol+ and the Play button at the same time and it was good to go. Holding just the play button or the vol+ button didnt acheive anything. But as I held both together, It came back to life instantly and I havent had any problems with it (for a week so far).

Re: zen stone mp3 player not switching on
Try this: disconnect the player from the computer, turn it off, hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard.
I had given up on my Zen ever working again. I had tried the reset button numerous times to no avail and all I had was flashing blue lights on the lower right, nothing seemed to be working. After reading this suggestion I tried holding in the "volume+" button while the player was hooked up to AC current and charging and at the same time pushing down the start button - suddenly I was back in business, the Zen screen lit up and said it was rebuilding library. I had all but given up! Thanks for help, I will NEVER again fast forward.
I've had a similar problem for a couple of days, which started when I'd added some more music to the Zen Stone using Creative Media Lite (the free software with the Stone). For me what finally cured the problem was to use the Windows "Safely Remove Hardware" icon rather than the "Disconnect Player" option on Creative Media Lite

Hi, from the way you said your problem, might not be easy for me to just give you a direct answer to the problem. Because i don't know what happened to it before it started acting the way it those.
So what you can do for me is to write out another comment and really describe exactly what happened to it that made it the way it is now.
But before you do that let me give you some Tips to troubleshoot it first and see if it will solve the problem.
How to Troubleshoot With a Zen Stone MP3 Player
Creative Zen Stone MP3 players work without problems under most conditions, but may occasionally malfunction during normal operation. Malfunctions are often caused by errors in the player software but are occasionally caused by other issues. If your Creative Zen Stone MP3 player is not playing back music or responding to button presses, troubleshoot your device. Most problems are common and do not require service.
Plug the small end of the USB cable into the USB jack on the Zen Stone MP3 player. If the rechargeable battery is drained, the MP3 player will not work. Wait until the indicator light stops blinking before removing it from your computer.
Connect the MP3 player to your computer and open the Creative Media Lite software on your computer. Check for updates to the player's firmware by pressing the "Check for Updates" button in the software. Follow the onscreen instructions to update the firmware if one is available. Firmware updates correct problems with the software and may resolve the problem with your device.
Reset the Zen Stone MP3 player to clear any errors that may have developed in the device's software. To reset the device, stick the end of a straightened paper clip into the hole marked "Reset." The device will restart.
Reformat the player as a last resort for fixing your Zen Stone MP3 player. To reformat the player, connect it to your computer and open "My Computer." Your player is located in the "Devices with Removable Storage" section. Right click on your MP3 player, select "Format," and confirm the selection.
Tips & Warnings
If you are still unable to operate your Creative Zen Stone MP3 player, visit the Creative support website.
Reformatting your Zen Stone MP3 player will delete all of the information on your device. Only reformat your player as a last resort.
my pc stopped detecting my zen. i tried and tried on all different pcs and nothing would pick it up. couldnt even get the battery sign on the zen. thought it was knacked. then one day i plugged it in again, got distracted and walked away. when i came back about two hours later, it was detected and charging. thought maybe that it was so flat that it had to charge a wee bit before it could display anything or the pc could find it. i dont know, dont know much about these things. just a thought

my zen stone player fell into water. it was off at that time, but i didnt switch it on. i try to dry using a drier & after 2 days, when i felt it was completely dry, i switched it on.. but the buttons are acting crazy & its not recharging. wat should i do ? please help me.
Mine did this as well. Then I just plugged it back into the PC, and waited a couple minutes. Unplugged it and it worked again. It was like it was not done saving or moving the data onto the Zen stone. Try this!!
sorry, the chat got disconnected and I can't get it back.
If it worked initially but doesn't now, signs point to a failure in the unit. Try plugging it into a friends computer. This other computer doesn't need to have the software installed to recognize the Zen Stone as a drive.
If nothing happens there either, your unit has a fault.
If it is recognized on this other computer, then you should reinstall the Zen software and see if it is detected again.
