Whatever you choose to do, the first thing you should do is back up all of your data immediately, in case the drive completely fails and you can't get to it.

Do you have a warranty on the hard drive? If so, you should send it back to the manufacturer after advising them of the 2-foot fall and have them either repair or replace it.

In case the problem is not actual damaged parts, you can run Scandisk or Chkdsk in Windows or DOS (with all of the options checked) to inspect and repair the drive and hopefully improve its performance.

you could run the chkdsk utility

click start control panel administrive tools computer management disk management right click on your drive select properties click tools you should see click check now click start two boxes automatically fix files and scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors place then a tick in both boxes then select check now start or you might tick one box then return after its finished the first repair then return and tick the second box you should not do anything while the chkdsk utility is in progress any input may damage this drive

hope this helps

It's possible to clone to this drive, but over the USB interface, it will be very slow. Firewire would be faster. It's also possible to boot from it, but again, it will be slower than an internal. What you've described, however, IS possible.

If you get no joy using the Troubleshooting Guide then try this...
You will need to check You Tube to find a Dismantle on your product and follow the step guide on here, the procedure should be similar.
Check 1st that your External HDD has an P.C. internal HDD inside, from You Tube, before dismantle of your External HDD. Connections for an Internal Laptop HDD may have same connections as P.C. not sure though.
Once your happy that it has continue reading and follow the step guide on the link below.

1. The TV and drive may not be compatible with each other. 2. The formatting of the drive could be the problem. The USB memory stick would be formatted as FAT32, but the Iomega drive would have been formatted as NTFS. Maybe the TV can only read drives formatted as FAT32 and not NTFS.

Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 Not being recognized

Clicking is not good. You need to contact IOMEGA SUPPORT on their web site and run through the troubleshooting steps then call for possible warranty action. The clicking is consistent with a failed hard drive. If you can remove the hard drive to read the part number and serial number, contact SEAGATE on their web site and go through the troubleshooting procedure for a possible warranty replacement. All hard drive manufacturers will cheerfully replace drives still under warranty if you carefully follow their procedures. Good Luck!
