Upgrading to 2GB will have a significant increase in speed, the jump from 2GB to 4 GB will be faster but the additional speed increase will be less than the 512 to 2 GB jump. In my book, get as much RAM as you can afford, for go with 4 GB. THe 533 Front side bus is set by the processor installed on the MB, using 800 Mhz RAM will have no ill effect as it is backwards compatible to 533

Testimonial: "thanks for advice and think i will just add the 2gb to the 512mb i have for now then add again if i feel i need to."

NOTE: If you do not install RAM in "MATCHED PAIRS" the system will run in single channel mode. So if you have a pair of 256's and a pair of 1GB modules, that should work ok

Pc don't work

I have encountered this the memory modules are not compatable and even if they were you may encounter problems with your computer having fatal errors if your memory is not the exact same brand and type. I always try to match the existing memory or just buy all new when i upgrade.

Memory module

Your motherboard supports 533MHz memory modules, no more. If you put anything higher in, it will work, but only at the speed of 533MHz, so there's not much point in aiming any higher. Just make sure what you're buying is a DDR2 533MHz memory module, and it's best to get them in increments of 2. If you have 4 slots on your motherboard, get another 2x512MB modules of RAM. If you're running Windows Vista, it might be worth considering 2x1GB modules. I think that pretty much covers your question, if you have anything else to ask, feel free to reply.
