See if this will work for you, turn the computer off, open the tower and follow the cable the is pluged in to the cd drive, unplug it , wait for about 4-5 min then plug it back in, that should reset the name.www.mrhope.com/drivers/cdrom.htm here is a link also that might help too , just go the sit and find your product name and download the drivers for it

thanks

Dell desktop says no boot device available

Good Morning

I looks like your computer is trying to boot off of a floppy disk that is not present or doesnt work.

Hit the f2 and enter setup
Look for BOOT
and choose c: drive or hard disk drive as your first boot device.

If this fixes the problem then you know your hard drive is good. If the drive is good you probably want your first boot device to be your dvd or cd rom drive. Then you want your Hard drive second.

If your hard drive wont boot the drive itself could be bad or your operating system will need to be reinstalled.

Good Luck
Jim

I have an Insignia d400a, given to me by my mother. I know it discontinued but i needed a pc so i wanted to wipe the hard drive with the dvd and Im having a really hard time. I reconfigured the BIoS to run...

It should be able to boot from the DVD or CD rom drives before checking the hard drive by default, but somebody could have changed bios settings which could cause it to not work. The factory (OEM) restore disk is DVD media, so you would need to use the DVD drive.

F2 during bootup to enter BIOS and check your boot sequence to make sure that the DVD drive comes before the hard drive. Also, the card reader on D400's tend to fail and no longer work, so it may be a good idea to dissable that from the boot sequence. The card reader can usually be found as a USB device in the boot sequence menu.

How do i get my master system disk to work on my new hard drive

You will need to put the disk in - and then boot the pc.
look for a notice that to start the machine using the cd rom or DISK drive to push the space bar or enter key or the famous any key.
IF this doesn't work - you will need to enter the bios - and set the pc to boot first to the cd rom drive.
start the pc - and tap the DELETE key - until the bios screen appears - - wait awhile for this- - - then select the BOOT - choice and then select [ instructions will be at the bottom of the screen] the first boot drive to be CD-ROM - DVD - --
click F10 and reboot - again looking for the notice I put above.

Boot your computer with that disk
For that when you power up the computer press F1 or F2 "del" key to enter in bios.

Dell Dimension 8300 - Can't Boot from XP Disk

When in doubt do without, that is remove the new hard drive cable and power, remove the DVD drive and try loading booting the XP from just this CD device. Enter the BIOS and check if the system sees the device. If it's not found in the BIOS then you'll never boot anything. Address it as the Primary device on the cable (I don't use CS) and see if the BIOS sees it.
If you get CD device seen in the BIOS then try to boot the CD in it. If it boots then power off and connect up your 40gb drive (optioned as Primary) on the other cable. Now power on as check the BIOS for the drive and the DVD device. If both are seen then boot the cd and try to load XP. After it's up and running install the other CD device as a Slave on one of the cables.

My cd rom wont boot up at start up

1) Has it ever booted from CD-ROM? If it has, go to step #2. If not, go to step #3
2) If nothing has changed (BIOS, hardware additions, etc), it's a bad CD drive
3) Check your BIOS "boot order" section. It varies from motherboard to motherboard, but all BIOS's have some type of boot sequence that you can configure. It's possible that yours may be FDD, HDD, CDROM (in that order), which means that as long as you have a working Windows computer, it never needs to boot to CD. Try changing the order and that should fix you up :)

Hope this helps :)
