Question about Maytag M6P09S2B Portable Air Conditioner

1 Answer

I have M6P09S2B*B Portable air conditioner. There is some kind of Voltage/Current protection unit on the power cord/Plug. The unit was broken and the Air Conditioner does not work anymore (no power supply). 1) Is it possible to replace this power supply cord with regular one without the protection unit (I have circuit breaker at main cabinet)? If yes there are 4 wires +, -, ground and blue one where I suppose to do with the blue one (to me looks like it was the signal from protection unit control board) 2) If not, where can I get replacement part? Any idea what the cost? Best Regards, Taisir Marzook

I checked the parts list and do not see this part. Can you please send the part number so I can order it. Regarding the protection I have protection in the house mann and sub boards, is that not enough?

OK, I accept that. I want to replace the original part - meaning the power cord together with protection unit. Where I can get one, since in the parts list you have sent me the link does not include this part

We strongly advice to replace with a new one since this is a critical part for the protection of the conditioner it self and most important your protection.
The cost is very small compare to the risk and especialy if you can do it your self then the cost much less.
Here we have one link you use to get the replacement part.

Good luck and thank you for using Fixya.

For the spare part number is a very specific item that we don,t have this information, however at the side we have mention their are more than happy to help you find the item.

As for the safety between the machine and home protection their is a very small delay which in many cases have been critical for human safety but also for the equipment and from experiance we strongly advice to maintain your conditioner to its original protection.

Why unit will not run

Good Morning Friend,

I understand your Frigidaire air conditioner, model# FAZ12HS2A, will not turn on. Please start by cleaning the filter. You can do this easily with the following instructions:

The air filter should be checked at least once a month to see if cleaning is necessary. Trapped particles in the filter can build up and cause an accumulation of frost on the cooling coils.

1)Push the vent handle to the Vent Closed position (where applicable).
    2)Open the front panel.
3)Grasp the filter by the center and pull up and out.
4)Wash the filter using liquid dishwashing detergent and warm water. Rinse filter thoroughly. Gently shake excess water from the filter. Be sure filter is thoroughly dry before replacing
5)Or instead of washing, you may vacuum the filter clean.

Also, be sure your air conditioner is properly grounded. To minimize shock and fire hazards, proper grounding is important. The power cord is equipped with a three-prong grounding plug for protection against shock hazards. Your air conditioner must be used in a properly grounded wall receptacle. If the wall receptacle you intend to use is not adequately grounded or protected by a time delay fuse or circuit breaker, have a qualified electrician install the proper receptacle. Do not run your air conditioner without outside protective cover in place. This could result in mechanical damage within your air conditioner. Do not use an extension cord or an adapter plug.

The power supply cord contains a current device that senses damage to the power cord. To test
your power supply cord do the following:

      1)Plug in your Air Conditioner.
2)The power supply cord will have TWO buttons on the plug head. Press the TEST button. You will notice a click as the RESET button pops out.
3)Press the RESET button. Again you will notice a click as the button engages.
4)The power supply cord is now supplying electricity to the unit. 4)

I ask that you please follow up with a comment on the post, at your convenience, to advise if further troubleshooting is needed or if your appliances status has changed successfully. Hope this is helpful.

      -Best Regards-

I'm sure you can find an Owner's Manual for your unit, if you do a Google search for Maytag M6P09S2B Portable AC Owner's Manual. Most will be free downloads, some you may have to pay for. n addition, the Maytag AC Units were made by Fedders/Airwell under the model # AZ6P09S2A. So, if you can't find it under Maytag, search for the Fedders model number.

Hope this helped you and thanks for choosing FixYa.

My Maytag Portable Air Conditioner Model #M6P09S2B keeps popping my breaker. Can you help me solve this problem?

This can because by a couple of things. An electrical fault within the AV Unit or the electrical circuit the unit is plugged into has other electric appliances on the same circuit. Thereby, overloading that one circuit. Try plugging the unit into another outlet that is on a different circuit. If it trips a circuit breaker then, the problem is within the unit. In which case, you will need to have the unit checked and serviced.

Hope this helped you and thanks for choosing FixYa.

I have a Sharp portable room air conditioner model CV-P10NC. The power plug RESET button and TEST button will not click in order to check out the power plug as the unit will not turn on. They did test O.K....

the fused9G.F.C.I.) cord you speak of is probably the G.F.C.I. built onto these units by design, can you or someone you know get access inside the unit and :Hot-Wire" the units cord and, bypass the power cord ( Just To Test the Unit)and see if it stays operational then replace bad unit cord if this is it.

If you have a clamp tester, operate the unit with the clamp tester and check the current reading. If the current reading is normal but the reset button is tipped then there is something wrong withe power plug reset button. But if the current reading is higher than the name plate rating then there is something wrong with the unit.
