The first expert said there are no keyboard drivers for my laptop. I don't agree after researching on internet exhaustively. I tried system restore 4 times with no help. I am assuming he means replace the keyboard but he was not clear about that. If I can replace the keyboard and fix the problem I will.

OK, I'll try that. The only thing I don't understand is, it also wouldn't recognize external plug and play USB keyboards. I tried two. That's why I figured I needed a driver. Why wouldn't the USB keyboards work?

    Thank You,

    Mike

The Device Manager has a yellow mark because it can't recognize the part. Since it's a keyboard it should have been automatically recognized (the ATKACPI is just to assign extra functions to the hotkeys, the keyboard would work just fine without it) - it's not because the chip of the keyboard has died - hardware fault.
The keyboard must be replaced.

That would happen only if the keyboard generic driver is corrupted or stuck by the faulty keyboard. To check if it's really a hard problem you should try to boot in the BIOS - if you can't (the keys don't respond) then you will know for sure. If the BIOS works just fine then the fastest way out of this is to perform a Repair install.

Hi. There are no keyboard drivers for this laptop. Keyboard's for laptop is being detected by windows Operating system the moment you installed windows. It's either windows failed to detect the keyboard because it is already defective or you have a windows problem. Try to restore the computer first to the time you remember your computer is working fine. Use the system restore tool under system tools. If same thing will happen after restoring the computer then this is a keyboard issue already.

All the best!

I am using a Lenovo Ultrabook. Wehen I lock in it shows "Microsoft mouse and keyboard centre has stopped working" it says afterwards that Microsoft tries to repair but no result. The screen is blank

Hi there,
This looks like an issue with the drivers.
Uninstall and reinstall the keyboard/mouse driver.
Follow the steps to uninstall & reinstall the keyboard driver from device manager.
1. Press Windows key + R from the Keyboard, this will open RUN box now type devmgmt.msc and hit Enter, this will open device manager.
2. In Device Manager, double click on the Keyboard.
3. It will show you the device driver name, select that device and then right click on it.
4. Click on Uninstall button.
5. Restart the computer, the drivers will get automatically installed on your Windows 10/8/7.
6. Repeat the same for Mice and other pointing devices.
If the issue persists then update to the latest Keyboard drivers from the manufacturer website and check if it helps.

Dell inspiron 2330; I cannot use keyboard for anything but the mouse is still working, How can it be fixed?

check the device manager under "Human Interface Devices" and see if the keyboard has an exclamation mark on yellow ground. If so it means you need a driver.

Keyboard locking up on ASUS laptop on model u57a

It's possible that the driver for your keyboard needs to be updated. Most people would not know the model number of a laptop keyboard unless they had recently changed it.

Go to the device manager of your laptop and look for anything that does not appear healthy (colored icons on devices) that may be your culprit.

However, if you right-click on the HID keyboard(s) and choose update driver for each keyboard, that may solve your problem... if not, choose to uninstall the drivers. Then when the computer starts up again, it will rediscover the keyboard and reinstall the drivers automatically.

You can get to the device manager several ways, 1: Open the file explorer right-click on This PC (or Computer or My Computer) depending on which version of Windows you have, choose Manage, the device manager is included in the list of tools that come up. 2: From control panel, search for device drivers. 3: Tap the windows key or start button on the task bar and start typing Device Manager to search for it.

You will need to re-install (or update) the drivers for your keyboard. You may be able to do this by going to the Device Manager on your computer to update the drivers, or you may need to download drivers from the ASUS downloads website.

On your computer start menu, click on Control Panel and search for Device Manager which will bring up the list of devices on your computer. Look for HID Keyboard devices to find your keyboard (expand by clicking on +) right click on your keyboard entry and choose update drivers.

At the ASUS website, search for your specific model and look for options to download drivers for Windows 7 (a link is included here).
