It depends on your graphics card setup but the default is to hold Ctrl and Alt keys down and press the arrow keys to change the orientation of your screen.

Veritcal lines across screen, audio on

Vertical lines all over the secreen denotes a fault to the connection betweenn T'Con and LCD panel. Check the flat cable {LVDS} connected in between for any loose contact. Re-seat it at both ends once, and try. If this do not help you, T'Con board itself might need to replace. If you wish to get more details about this fault, check this link. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/ There are some posts, which have illustrations of screen shots as you havedescribed here. Pull up older posts, and compare the screen shot to that of your TVs.

Green lines that extend across the screen vertically

If it looks like a veritcal pin stripe it most likely is a de-laimiation of the flex cable to the glass, this can only be fixed by replacing the pannel. If it is in warranty get it in right away.

On my LCD TV. a series of vertical colored lines scroll across the screen instead of a picture, however sound did play. What could this be?

First you can try adjusting the cable to the LCD Controller (LCD CONTROLLER 6870C-0080D from LG 42LC2D) Sometimes the contacts get out of alignment and disconnecting/reconnecting it will clear it up. Do not touch the contact points.
If this does not work, you may have to replace it.

Toshiba 46HM95 46 tv

If the line is all that is showing with black on the top and bottom. This indicates a loss of vertical deflection which is caused by the loss of the veritcal sweepignal. Check the output of the vertical section of the TV set. You will need an oscilloscope, and multimeter along with a schematic.
