Hello!

don't worry, we will figure it out.. i'm pretty sure that you surely did the right thing. its probably the modem itself that is not cooperating here. if you dont see any dsl light on the modem that is because the modem is not yet setup.

nwy, since you already try setting it up using the installation cd, let's try to do check it manually instead

check your cable connection:
step 1: Power supply connected
Step 2: Phone cable to the DSL port of the modem to the DSL outlet
Step 3: Ethernet cable from the ethernet port of the modem to your pc

device configuration:
Step 1:open browser and type 192.168.1.254
Step 2: create your own password
Step 3: username admin and the password you created
Step 4: type your ISP user ID and password
Step 5: it should give your the confirmation that you are now connected

Have a motorola modem and a AT&T DSL for internet. I can"t connect to the internet. The internet service said that the modem is fine but my drivers are bad. How do I get new drivers when I can't...

Ok, first off, lets have the computer talk to the modem.
When you first connect to your modem, (Power, phoneline (with filter in the correct port, and Ethernet cable to computer), the accompanying disk will negotiate the setup of your account.
If you already had an account, then proceed:

Connect the RJ45 cable to the computer and the offset port in the back of the modem (RJ45 is the cable that looks like a really big telephone jack, it only goes in one way)

once that is connected, bring up your browser. (Internet explorer)
Do not expect the internet just yet, but if it does, then you modem is working and you do not have wireless with this modem.

after you bring up the browser, type this into the address bar (where you have the http:.....)
192.168.1.254 and hit enter (on your keyboard)

Assuming everything is properly connect and powered up, you should see a display of your modem's internal menu page.

The first page requires some information in order to talk to the ATT servers.

You will need you account login name

xxxxxxxxxxx@att.net

and your password; the one you set up your account with

save the settings, Power cycle your modem (remove the power plug and after 10 seconds plug it back in)

You should have (left to right)
Power,
Ethernet
DSL
Internet
Activity
If the 5th light blinks on the modem after the restart, you are connected.
Try to surf on your computer.
If you still do not have the 5th light (activity) you may have gotten a bad modem.

good luck and don't forget to vote!!!

Will this modem work with SBC/ATT ISP?

Yes this one should work, you just need to get your ISP settings for this modem from SBC/ATT and configure it to the modem....

SB5101 Motorola Modem Disconnects Randomly

If all the lights go out I would assume you mean the power light as well. Couple of things I would look at:

Has your ISP replaced the modem including the power adapter?
Has your ISP verified there is no short on the incoming data cable? You could try to wiggle the incoming data cable to see if the lights go out. I would do the same on the power cable.

If it's not a mechanical fault (cables), verify that you have the correct and current drivers for your modem and operating system.

Good luck and thanks for using FixYa.

Recently I subscribed ATT DSL Service conflict IP Address

the motorola modem that att is using uses 192.168.1.x subnet. log onto your router and change it to 192.168.b.x where b is any number between 2 and 254 (just not 1). You should also log onto the modem and change the setting that allows it to share the external ip address with the router. You will need to do this if you plan on accessing your network from the internet.

Getting disconnected from the net

hi marco22,

first thing you need to do is contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP) for them to check the line, because there is a posibility that it could be a problem from your ISP.

if everythings OK from your ISP end, better enable first the keep-alive option on your modem, if possible to upgrade the software of the modem do it first, before changing it.

and better called the manufacturer for the modem to make sure that your are doing the right thing.

have a great day ahead.

You said that every evening @6:30 you loose your connections, did you try to call your ISP what is the problem? If they have no explanation for this, i think it's better to change your ISP.
