I have an original style PS2 which although is running fine on start up, does not read the discs and boot up so the gane can be played. The browser option works fine and I have cleaned the laser. Any ideas please?

Re: PS2 not reading disks
Your lazer lense has bit the dust. Depending on your model type the first gen systems lazers are very easy to replace. The later versions sony made it harder to replace. You can find out what model you have by looking at the back of your PS2 then you can either call sony or go to there website and find out what generation PS2 you have. Then go from there. Hope this helps
The laser on the ps2 runs on rails so it can move back and forth and read the disc if the laser can't read the disc it will move back and forth. on the older ps2s the way the laser is moved is there is a electric motor that spins a worm drive moving the laser the laser has a small arm that reaches out and rests on top of the worm drive. The clicking noise u hear is the little arm that is circled staying stationary and the worm drive spinning. to fix this i suggest oiling the rails the laser sits on and while u have ur ps2 apart cleaning the laser with some rubbing alchohol and a Q-tip.

God of War II being one of the few Dual-Layer discs on the PS2, it is possible that your problem originates from your PS2 lens being unable to read it correctly. The PS2 Slim is supposed to be able to read Dual-Layer, thus you should try cleaning your lens, it may be dirty, leading to this kind of error while still able to read Single-Layer discs.
Get real disks. Fake disks won't work with the approved PS2 software, only a true Sony PS2 or PS1 game will be read by the system. Otherwise, your going to need to install a totally new system onto the PS2 over the original OP. It's a lot cheaper and simpler to just play the real games.
if you are using the older style ps2 fat one then its probly that the disc might either be scratched a bit and almost outta date as a older ps2 gets used it will begin to have disc reading errors what i did was upgrade to the slim they have less problems with disck reading erros over time id do one of two things or both take the disc to someone or a place to have it professionly cleaned for at most 3 bucks then try it then if not try leaning your ps2 upright and incert the disc some times doing that will make the laser not hickup and read it better with the motor running sideways keepng it from skipping . if it dosnt help much im sorry but its always a good try ;)
Sounds like you need to get your money back ..the resurfaceing can also do more bad than good But a little trick lightly rub a crayon over the disk ,,old pantyhose works great rub it off from center out then try your disk ,,have saved many good games that way
