Question about Stoves Ovens

Open Question

I live in Greece and I have a K├Ârting fan assisted oven cooker white in color. The cooker knob has a mark of 1 (the lowest), 2 and 3 (the highest). For the oven knobs only the timing knob has figures on it, but the oven knob has wiped out. I don't even know its' model. Can you help me with instructions or manual on how to operate the oven knob? Thank you

Try this web site. If this is not your oven, reenter the correct model number in the box on the left and it should provide the correct manuals. It will also ask you to specify the language you want the manual in.

Hope this helps.

If you find the model number and have trouble with this site, let me know and I'll give you a hand.

SOURCE: Hotpoint cooker, grill doesn't work but top oven does

If the elements 'look' okay, they probably are. The 'infinite control switch' is probably the problem. With out the use of a meter, it's guess work. Unless you can see a connection problem.

I assume that you are grilling with the oven door open and not closed, if you are grilling with the door closed, then this will cause an overheating problem,if this is not the case, then I would suggest that the grill regulator is faulty,. and needs replacing.
It not covered by health and safety rules.
Please leave any comments you may have, as I like to know if my comments are appropiate.
Thanks.

The US National Electrical Code only mandates white (or grey) for the neutral power conductor and bare copper, green, or green with yellow stripes for the protective ground. Power will generally be black or red. 3 phase power will have three colored lines, the first is generally black or brown, the second red or orange, and the third blue or yellow..
i,e,
Yellow/Green is Earth so 'E'. Brown is live so 'L', and Blue is neutral so 'N'.

I have a kenmore mark 1 oven in my apartment and the oven temperature says 1-9 instead of going in degrees such as 100, 350 etc. I am wondering which number stands for which heat?

This Conversion table is from the old Gas Mark scale
I'm thinking it should be right or at least pretty close.
You could also get a cheap ($5-7) oven thermometer from local grocery store.
Put it inside oven to check actual temp achieved.

Gas mark Fahrenheit Celsius
1⁄4 225° 107°
1⁄2 250° 121°
1 275° 135°
2 300° 149°
3 325° 163°
4 350° 177°
5 375° 191°
6 400° 204°
7 425° 218°
8 450° 232°
9 475° 246°

I need correct temperature readings

On most US ovens the high temp is 550f and the lowest is around 100f for warm. I would imagine 1 is warm and 5 is 550f so 2 would be 250 3 would be 325 4 would be 425. Or you could say ribs and slow cooking 2, cake 3, cornbread 4, and 5 would be broil. The only way to know is set each number and place an oven thermostat in there to see what the temp is fer each number. Personally my grand mother cooked on a wood stove and never had a knob, she just shoved the biscuits in the oven and added another stick of wood.

Temperature control with gas ovens is not an exact science. However the control should be better than you say.

Have you tried reducing the set temperature to compensate for the 'overshoot'. It may be worth a try.

I have two sources that give correspondances between thermostat numbers and temperatures.

This is the first one:

THERMOSTATS
bullette1.gifThermostat 1 30°C - 85°F bullette2.gifThermostat 2 60°C - 140°F bullette1.gifThermostat 3 90°C - 195°F bullette2.gifThermostat 4 120°C - 250°F Gas mark 1/2 bullette1.gifThermostat 5 150°C - 300°F Gas mark 2 bullette2.gifThermostat 6 180°C - 350°F Gas mark 4 bullette1.gifThermostat 7 210°C - 410°F Gas mark 6 bullette2.gifThermostat 8 240°C - 460°F Gas mark 8 bullette1.gifThermostat 9 270°C - 520°F Gas mark 10

The other one is a formula: t = 20 X (T + 3)

where t is the température in °C
T is the thermostat (1, 2 ... 12)

As you may discover, each of the methods give slightly different results. Hope this will help.
